Upon completing the Regalith Grand Cathedral dungeon in Metaphor: ReFantazio, you will do battle with one of Louis’ henchmen, Zorba the Necromancer. Unfortunately, as his final act, he performs a spell that will bring the Human that was down in the courtyard alive. It’s up to your character and his band to put a stop to this Human, named Homo Avades, before Grand Trad is destroyed.
All of Homo Avades’ Attacks¶
Homo Avades has a variety of attacks, some of which are situational and depend on which parts are still there.
-
Swiping Arc: The boss will use both of its arms to sweep them across the arena, hitting all of your characters. Can hit characters more than once. If both arms are destroyed, this attack will miss.
-
Oblivion Dust: The little horn thing on the heart will inflict Forget on a character. This means they cannot use any skills, including Synthesis ones.
-
Hamaon: The heart will attack with this sometimes, which is a medium light-based spell.
-
Ambush Assault: This is the attack from the Assailants inside of the shell, whom appear on the turn that the boss gets up on after being knocked down. The attack occurs on the following turn and doesn’t occur if you deplete their health.
-
Shell Regeneration: The boss will restore the Shell, but the extent of how much it restores depends on if the arms are still there or not.
-
Soul Scream: A rare move that might only happen when the boss is low on health? It uses this to gain an additional four turn icons.
Homo Avades Boss Strategy¶
Homo Avades is quite big, so it’s going to be tough to track the boss head on. In fact, the main target you want to be hitting is the heart at the top of the boss. You won’t be able to reach it with your weapons, but magic will work. However, there is another way to attack the heart, which is to knock down the boss. This is done by targeting the Shell, or main body. Deplete the Shell and the boss will be knocked down for a turn, then get up on its next turn.
Upon first getting up, some creatures will appear inside of the Shell. If you don’t destroy them, then they will perform an attack on the boss’ next turn, which will hit everyone for decent damage. You can deal damage to them and destroy the Assailants, although they do have quite a bit of HP. As soon as the Assailants do their thing (or fail because you destroyed them), the boss will repair the Shell. After doing this the first time, the two arms will become targets. Destroying both of them will do two things, as Swiping Arc will miss when it’s used, and the Shell will not be fully healed.
The Right Hand is weak to fire, while the Left Hand will also be weak to fire. Note that during the fight, once the boss recovers, Gallica will chime in and offer to do some help. Take her up on this offer and she will do some big damage to the Assailants portion. This should be more than enough to bring down their health and defeat them on that turn, so you can avoid their attack. When Gallica uses this, she will need to wait a few turns before being able to do it again. Always take her up on the offer, though, since it should only take one or two more hits after she attacks to take them down.
The best thing to do when attacking the heart is to stick to physical attacks, as it is strong against all the elements. You can use those spells to strike the other parts, but not the heart. This boss isn’t too difficult and is more of war of attrition, since its damage output isn’t exactly all too high. There is one more move it can do, called Soul Scream, which gives it four extra turn icons, but depending on when it does it, the extra actions might not be very useful.
For defeating Avades, it will drop an Avades’s Eggshell, an item you can sell for a lot of money. Additionally, that will put a wrap on this chapter of the game. Depending on how soon you’ve done this part of the story, you will have some free time, as the next event won’t happen until 6/22.
