The Wizard is one of the Adept Archetypes in Metaphor: ReFantazio. It is the advanced form of the Mage with strong command over Fire, Ice, and Electric attacks, but can now make use of more powerful Synthesis attacks. It is weak to piercing damage but highly resistant to both Ice and Wind damage, two of the more common elemental affinities.
The Wizard is a part of the Mage Lineage and investing in it will allow you to unlock its advanced forms: the Elemental Master and Warlock. The Wizard Archetype is a fairly easy to use class and one of the more basic adept forms as it comes from the game’s base Archetype given to the protagonist early on in the story.
How to unlock the Wizard Archetype¶
The Wizard Archetype is unlocked after reaching Rank 3 with Gallica’s bond. By simply progressing the game until after the events in Martira, you will get the rank up. You will also need 7,200 MAG to unlock it for the first time and Rank 20 on the Mage.
Wizard Skills¶
The Wizard has access to these Skills:
- Magic Recovery - [Hero Passive] In overworld combat, recovers MP each time an enemy is stunned or defeated.
- Botra - Deals medium magic Fire damage to one enemy (10 MP)
- Blizza - Deals medium magic Ice damage to one enemy (10 MP)
- Kandera - Deals medium magic Electric damage to one enemy (10 MP)
- Shield Blessing - [Passive] While attack/defense or hit/evasion are buffer, recover a significant amount of MP every turn
- Arcane Unity - Increases strength and hit rate of Synthesis
As you can see, a lot of these skills are identical or similar to the Mage. However, Arcane Unity is the standout here really enhancing your Synthesis Skills and making it easy to land more powerful hits more consistently. That is really how you want to play the Wizard.
Wizard Synthesis Skills¶
The Wizard has access to a wide array of Synthesis Skills:
- Gabotra - Required Skill: Botra. Deals medium magic Fire damage to all enemies (10 MP) [Allies needed: Seeker, Mage, or Healer Lineages]

- Skyfall Bolt - Deals severe magic Electric damage to one enemy (22 MP) [First ally needed: Mage, Masked Dancer, or Summoner Lineages & Second ally needed: Mage, Masked Dancer, or Summoner Lineages]
As you can see, the Wizard’s collection of Synthesis Skills has been dramatically improved allowing you to use any of the main three elements here to deal a lot of damage to one enemy or all enemies. This makes the Wizard incredibly versatile. Skyfall Bolt is also useful as a powerful one-off attack, while Makarabreak can be used to provide a small bit of protection by reflecting the damage.
