Metaphor: ReFantazio

Superior Scrimshaw

By
Jarrod Garripoli

A good number of side quests in Metaphor: ReFantazio will have you venturing to optional dungeons to do something, like defeat a strong monster or obtain some special item. "Superior Scrimshaw" iconSuperior Scrimshaw will be doing the former, as it asks you to go to the Forsaken Tower to get an "Ebony Horn" iconEbony Horn from the monster residing at the top of the tower.

Superior Scrimshaw Location

This side quest will start in Port Brilehaven, but you won’t be able to get it right away, as there is a little bit of story first. Once you reach July 23rd on the calendar, you will finally have some free time in Brilehaven. Head to the "Merchant" iconMerchants’ Bazaar and just north of the shops will be a man with a quest for you to do. The NPC is a craftsman that works on making monster horns into ornaments. However, the ones he has been using aren’t cut out for the intricate designs he wants to do.

(1 of 3) You can find the NPC for this quest in the Merchants’ Bazaar area of Brilehaven.

He has heard of a very strong horn, called the Ebony Horn, which is gotten from the Orgas in the Forsaken Tower. However, he won’t show you where the Forsaken Tower is located, so you will have to head over to the tavern and get the info from the "Informant" iconInformant there. Doing this will put the Forsaken Tower on the map. Note that the side quest, "Deeds and Diversions" iconDeeds and Diversions, will also require you to finish the Forsaken Tower, but you technically don’t need anything from the dungeon in order to finish that one; you just need to have completed it.

The Forsaken Tower is a pretty linear dungeon, as it’s literally a normal tower that you climb via stairs. There will be Goborns in here, so you know you cannot be fighting them with any "Mage" iconMage or "Healer" iconHealer class on your team. The dungeon is also home to some exploding enemies, similar to the Spektos in the Grand Cathedral dungeon. You’re better off just getting close to the Potolpos, then quickly backing off to trigger their self-destruct. They only do the self-destruct on the field and not in battle, and you probably want to save your MP and other resources for the other enemies.

There are also a few mimics disguising as chests in the Forsaken Tower, but these are Trove Imitecs, which you faced as the boss in the Abandoned Tomb dungeon. They are great to fight, since you can "Steal" iconSteal some "Graced Water" iconGraced Waters from them. The biggest problem in the tower are the Orgos, big hulking brutes that have a bit too much health. They resist all of the physical damage types and are only weak to Dark, so make sure you have access to that, if you wish to fight them. There is one "Gold Beetle" iconGold Beetle in the dungeon and it’s pretty hard to miss, but keep a look out for it either way.

(1 of 4) The tower is home to some dangerous enemies, like the exploding Potolpos.

At the top, you will fight the Orgas, which is very similar to the Orgos, as it does a very similar pattern of moves to do a very strong physical attack. When you see it "Charge" iconCharge, you’re better off just guarding on your next turn to try and avoid having to resurrect characters. For a full guide on this boss, check out the Orgas Boss Guide page. Once you beat the Orgas, you will receive the Ebony Horn, so you can leave the dungeon and return to town when you’re ready. Return the horn to the NPC to finish the quest.

Superior Scrimshaw Rewards

The rewards for this quest aren’t plentiful, as you will receive 25,000 Reeves, as well as a boost to your Courage Royal Virtue (four points).
