You will face many bosses in Metaphor: ReFantazio, some of which are optional. When you accept the side quest titled A Dagger, a Ring, and a Rake, you will unlock the Abandoned Tomb optional dungeon. In order to complete the above quest, you will have to face the Trove Imitec, a large mimic guarding a key that allows you to procure the necessary item.
All of Trove Imitec’s Attacks¶
There’s not much to go on with this battle, as the Trove Imitec is very similar to the other mimics you can fight in this dungeon, albeit this one being much stronger.
-
Crushing Blow: Physical attack against your whole party.
-
Sleepy Air: The boss will attempt to put your entire party to sleep. Easiest way to avoid this is to simply equip an accessory that prevents it.
-
Skull Cracker: Physical attack that hits a single character.
-
Hellbound: Physical attack that hits a single character.
-
Punishing Blow: Physical attack that hits all characters.
- Spendthrift’s Waste: The boss will basically steal money from you. You won’t get this back upon the boss’ defeat, either.
Trove Imitec Boss Strategy¶
This fight may seem like nothing more than a more powerful mimic battle, but the boss can be quite challenging if you underestimate it. This creature will have a number of physical attacks, some of which hit a single character and others that hit the entire party. These can hurt, but the damage is increased if it manages to put characters to sleep with Sleepy Air. That’s the entire reason that this fight can go wrong very quickly, since physical attacks on sleeping characters will become critical hits.
The longer this battle lasts, the more of a chance that things go wrong, so you should try and blast it with your strongest attacks. If you went and bought the accessories to prevent Sleep, then this battle will be a lot easier, since you won’t have to worry about the crits. Otherwise, make sure you have Medi on one (or two) characters and don’t be afraid to use your items, too. You should have a Merchant with you in this battle, which will be extremely helpful.
Using Gold Attack on the boss during each of your turns will cause it to waste one of its two actions on its own turn doing nothing. It will still likely spam Sleepy Air a lot during this time, so there’s no escaping the boss getting an advantage over you if you don’t have protection against it. It is weak to Light attacks, so having a Healer here is great, or having Hama inherited on someone that was once a Healer. Outside of Dark attacks, which it resists, any other form of damage is free reign here. One last thing is to try and steal from it, as you can nab a Crescent Medal that regens some MP for someone every turn.
For defeating the Trove Imitec, you will receive a Graced Water and although the game doesn’t explicity say the item, you also receive some sort of key. This key will allow you to open those special doors you saw during the dungeon, so it’s time to finish exploring the place!
