Metaphor: ReFantazio

Healer Archetype

By
Echo Apsey

The Healer Archetype in Metaphor: ReFantazio is one of the main ways of healing your time and providing support in and out of battles. It is focused around dispelling status ailments and picking your teammates back up in a fight. However, it is fragile with low defenses. It is weak to both Dark and Strike Melee attacks, while strong against Light damage.

Ranking the Healer up will allow you to unlock new Skills and its Adept and Elite forms: Cleric and Savior. The Healer Archetype is a necessity early in the game as your healing capacity will be low and it can mean the difference between continuing a dungeon or losing additional days as you need to return to rest and heal.

How to unlock the Healer Archetype

The Healer Archetype is unlocked as a part of the game’s story when you reach Rank 1 with Maria’s bond. This occurs in Grand Trad when you meet her with Grius upon your return from the Nord Mines.

You will need to also spend a small amount of MAG to be able to equip it onto your protagonist and other party members.

Healer Skills

The Healer has access to four active Skills and two Passive Skills:

  • Hama - Deals weak magic Light damage to one enemy (4 MP)
  • Medi - Weak HP recovery for all allies (10 MP)
  • Patra - Cures status ailments for one ally (6 MP)
  • Light Dodge - [Passive] Increases evasion against Light attacks
  • Dekunda - Removes all debuff effects from all allies (18 MP)
  • Healer’s Insight - [Passive]] Recovers medium HP every turn. Heals more if archetypes of the same Lineage are present [Unlocked at Rank 20]

Of course, your main skills here are the healing skills Patra and Medi. These are incredibly useful in fights and dungeons as you will need to regularly heal your team as some attacks can wipe out most of your health bar. The additional Light damage from Hama here is also a nice boon, but you will want to use Skill Inheritance to bring across a few skills from other Archetypes too in order to vary your damage outputs.

Healer Synthesis Skills

The Healer has three different Synthesis Skills, one of the lower amounts for a Basic Archetype form:

  • Mahama - Requires Hama skill. Deals weak magic Light damage to all enemies (6 MP) [Allies needed: Seeker, Mage, or Healer Lineages]
  • Medica - Requires Medi skill. Medium HP recovery for all allies (20 MP) [Allies needed: Knight, Healer, or Commander Lineages]
  • Magical Injection - Raises a barrier that nullifies one attack that would inflict a status ailment. Affects all allies (12 MP) [Allies needed: Brawler, Merchant, or Summoner Lineages]

While these skills aren’t as vast as some other Archetypes, all of them are incredibly useful. The Light damage to every enemy is fantastic as a lot of early game enemies are weak to Light. Additionally, the healing with Medi is always useful. Magical Injection is way more useful than you might think too as some enemies can combine elemental effects early on to devastating effect, so being able to shrug that off can change the tide of a battle.
