Unlocking the More Follower Bond¶
There’s not much you really need to do to unlock More’s Follower Bond, it’s as simple as playing through the Prologue until you unlock the Archetype system properly at the Northern Border Fort on 6/5. While More is crucial to the game’s main plot and plays an integral role in helping you hone your Archetypes, the rest of his Bond is technically optional, even if you’ll find you’ll almost naturally complete it as you go along.
Depending on how much effort you put into More’s Bond, you’ll be able to get access to some useful AEXP items and unlock some of the Seeker Archetypes a bit sooner. Regardless of how you spend your time, you’ll at the very least want to unlock his second rank as soon as possible to gain access to the Archetype Tree outside of Akademia.
More Rank up Events and Abilities¶
There is a total of eight Rank Up events for More and as mentioned above, outside of the first rank which happens automatically, the other seven are all optional. The table below will detail how to get each Rank for More and the ability it unlocks.

4 | Complete More’s third quest (More’s Task Chapter Two: Solitude) | Ability Forecast (allows you to preview all upcoming Follower abilities) |
5 | Complete More’s fourth quest (More’s Task Chapter Three: Drifting) | Scion’s Merit (increases Seeker Skill Inheritance Slots to 3) |
6 | Complete More’s fifth quest (More’s Task Chapter Four: Turmoil) | Seeker Veneration (significantly decreases MAG cost to study) |
7 | Complete More’s sixth quest (More’s Task Chapter Five: Resolve) | Seeker Archetype: Elite (unlocks Soul Hacker), Scion’s Essence (increases Seeker Skill Inheritance Slots to 4) |
8 | Complete More’s final quest (More’s Task Chapter Six: The End) | Archetype Evangelist (Increase an Archetype’s status bonuses by +3 when equipped) |
All of More’s Quests¶
If you pay attention to the conditions in the table above, you’ll notice that all of More’s rank up events (beyond the initial one) require you to complete each of the tasks that he hands you at Akademia. While you there is no hard date set on when you can complete these (which is useful for NG+), you will be gated by when you have access to specific Archetypes. The table below will give you all of the details about every quest, what you need to complete it, and the additional rewards (beyond the rank up).
Quest | Conditions | Rewards |
---|---|---|
More’s Task: Foreword and Prologue | Get the Healer Archetype (Maria’s Bond) to Rank 10 | Imagination +4, Hero’s Incense x3 |
More’s Task Chapter One: Ordeal | Study the Gunner Archetype (Neuras’ Bond) on any character | Imagination +4, Hero’s Fruit x5 |
More’s Task Chapter Two: Solitude | Get the Merchant Archetype (Brigitta’s Bond) to Rank 15 | Imagination +4, Hero’s Fruit x8 |
More’s Task Chapter Three: Drifting | Unlock 15 different Archetypes. Aim for around when you can get Bardon’s Bond upon completing the Kiregante Castle story dungeon in Martira | Imagination +4, Hero’s Leaf of Light x5 |
More’s Task Chapter Four: Turmoil | Get the General Archetype (requires Rank 20 Commander and Bardon Bond Rank 3) to Rank 15 | Imagination +4, Hero’s Leaf of Light x8 |
More’s Task Chapter Five: Resolve | Unlock 25 different Archetypes. This is achievable around when you unlock Eupha’s Bond after the events at Virga Island | Imagination +4, Hero’s Jeweled Root x5 |
More’s Task Chapter Six: The End | Unlock an Elite Archetype and master it (Rank 20) | Imagination +4, Hero’s Jeweled Root x8 |
All of More’s quests revolve around ranking up or unlocking Archetypes, as you may expect from his role in the story. The biggest blocker to his Bond is perhaps the Chapter Three (unlock 15 different Archetypes) and Chapter Five (unlocking 25 different Archetypes) quests. This requires a lot of effort on your behalf so always look to unlock and raise new Archetypes wherever possible, not only is this useful for these quests, but the exclusive Archetypes towards the end of the adventure require you to dip into other Archetypes.
As for his abilities, More has access to some fantastic ones that bring some great quality of life to Metaphor: ReFantazio. You’ll want to hit Rank 2 as soon as possible, as this allows you to change Archetypes, inherit skills, and more without the need of having to visit Akademia, this is especially useful in dungeons. Ability Forecast will let you see what abilities any of the Followers will unlock while the final ability, Archetype Evangelist, will make equipped Archetypes even stronger!
Rank 1 Abilities - Seeker Archetype and Bright-Eyed Student¶
The Seeker Archetype tree is a jack-of-all trades fighter that sits in the front row (ideally) and is the first Archetype that the protagonist unlocks. It remains a good main Tree for the hero, as you’ll get some very useful skills such as Dei to help with healing and Cyc which is useful for hitting Wind weakness early on.
Bright-Eyed Student is just a natural part of the Archetype system (seeing as you unlock this Rank at the same time) where by you any character can freely change what Archetype they are with the Archetype Tree at Akademia, accessed by speaking to More.
Rank 2 Abilities - Seeker Enlightenment, Scion’s Skill, and More’s Magic Igniter¶
Seeker Enlightenment works the same as the other Enlightenment abilities by decreasing the cost of MAG needed to study any of the Seeker Archetypes. There are three Archetypes in this tree, and you’ll need to dip into it a few times to unlock some special Archetypes later in the adventure so decreasing that cost a little is a boon.
Scion’s Skill is the first in the series of Scion abilities that grant you an extra Inheritance Slot. This is very useful for the Seeker as once you get access to more Archetypes, you can really enhance the idea of the Seeker being a jack-of-all trades such as by maybe adding some more elemental skills.
More’s Magic Ingniter is an early game changer and you’ll want to reach this rank as soon as possible. Once unlocked, you’ll be able to access the Archetype Tree (usually accessed by speaking to More) by opening the menu and pressing the [Triangle]/[Y Button]. This will let you change your Archetype, study a new one, or inherit a skill at any time, anywhere, without the need to visit Akademia.
Rank 3 Ability - Seeker Archetype: Adept¶
Next up in the Seeker Tree is the Magic Seeker, an Archetype that gives you access to stronger Wind skills, a better single target heal and at Rank 20, the very useful Vitalja skill. This will increase the Attack/Defense of one ally by two ranks for 3 turns! As for your Synthesis Skills, you’ll unlock the ability to use extreme Fire or Strike damage-type skills along with the impressive Heat Riser, a buff that boosts Attack/Defense/Hit/Evasion for one ally.
Rank 4 Ability - Ability Forecast¶
This ability will allow you to see what any ability a Follower will unlock for all ranks, helping you to plan where to focus first. This is useful if you’re playing Metaphor: ReFantazio blind, but if you’re using this guide, the information is already all there for you.
Rank 5 Ability - Scion’s Merit¶
The second in the Scion’s series of abilities, this one will give you three Skill Inheritance slots for any Seeker Archetype. You can now add more potent attack skills to your Seeker, or perhaps add the group healing skills from the Healer Tree.
Rank 6 Ability - Seeker Veneration¶
Seeker Veneration is the upgrade to Seeker Enlightenment, further decreasing the cost of MAG to study these Archetypes, reducing the base Archetype to as little as 375. You’ll have a few characters dipping in and out of Seeker Archetypes and as always, every little helps.
Rank 7 Abilities - Seeker Archetype: Elite and Scion’s Essence¶
The final Archetype for the Seeker Tree, the Soul Hacker is not only a reference to another Atlus title but a very powerful Archetype. The Soul Hacker is all about absorbing some MP from your attack skills, of which you get access to powerful Wind and Fire-based attacks, with the final Wind attack being an Extreme-type skill that ignores resistances. You’ll also get access to some potent buffs, such as raising all allies Critical Rate and the Heat Riser, once a Synthesis Skill, now available for use without. Additionally, you’ll get access to some of the most powerful Almighty Synthesis Skills in the game.
Scion’s Essence is the final Scion skill that increases your Skill Inheritance Slots. With four slots at your disposal, you can really customize the Soul Hacker to be a powerhouse.
Rank 8 Ability - Archetype Evangelist¶
Archetype Evangelist is a powerful ability that shows its true colors when you’re on Elite or the special Archetypes as they will naturally get a large stat bonus when equipped already. With Archetype Evangelist, these will get a further +3 to any existing stat bonuses adding a lot of power to your character. For example, with the Soul Hacker equipped and this ability learned, you’ll get +11 Strength, +10 Magic, +9 Endurance, +10 Agility, and +9 Luck!
There you have it; all of More’s Bonds and Abilities in Metaphor: ReFantazio. He unlocks some very useful quality of life abilities and Archetype Evangelist will add a lot of power across the board. Additionally, Eupha will need to spend time in the Seeker Trees if she wants to work towards unlocking Royal Summoner.
