Virga Island is your destination after you finish infiltrating the Charadrius, in Metaphor: ReFantazio. Upon arriving, you get coerced into helping the elder rescue his sister from the Dragon Temple. Not only does this lead you going through one dungeon, but also another, in Drakongrace Shinjuku. Once you finally reach the end, you will have to do battle with Malvirta Drako Eht, the dragon god.
All of Malvirta Drako Eht’s Attacks¶
Note that this section is for all of Eht’s attacks and not Homo Margo, since Margo doesn’t really do anything during this battle.
-
Poison Scratch: Eht will attack a single character and attempt to poison them.
-
Tarukaja: Eht buffs his attack by one rank for three turns.
-
Rakukaja: Ehy will buff his defence by one rank for three turns.
-
Dragon God’s Breath: Deals medium magic Dark damage to all characters.
-
Dekunda: Eht will use this whenever he has debuff effects on itself, removing them.
-
Roar: Eht will let out a roar that doesn’t do any damage, but lowers everyone’s attack, defence and hit/evasion by two ranks for three turns. Use Dekunda if you have it to negate this.
-
Curse Chant: The dragon will attempt to put the Hex ailment on your party. Remember to heal anyone who gets afflicted with this, especially since it makes you more susceptible to Dark damage.
-
Mudodyne: Deals heavy magic Dark damage to one character.
-
Tail Swipe: Just as it sounds, as the dragon will attack your entire party with its tail for Strike damage.
-
Plundering Life: This is the only attack you will see from Homo Margo. It steals life from the dragon, so it’s not even an attack on your party.
Malvirta Drako Eht Boss Strategy¶
First and foremost, you are forced to use Eupha during this battle, so you only have room for two other characters (protagonist is always included). Her Archetype is called the Summoner and she will, well, summon creatures to perform attacks. Oddly enough, her two normal skills cost more MP than her Synthesis Skills, although you are using two Turn Icons. Even then, it’s still probably more cost effective to use the Sythesis skills at the beginning of the fight, due to one of the targets being weak to wind. The wind-based Synthesis skill also has the added benefit of severely reducing the enemies’ attack power.
Speaking of that, you have the dragon itself, as well as Homo Margo, who is sitting on top of the dragon’s back. Margo won’t do much of anything, but you will still want to attack him, since he is the only one with a weakness (wind). At lower health, Margo will steal some life from the dragon, which is why you might want to concentrate on it first. In essence, Margo will help you in defeating Eht, so you can use him to get extra Turn Icons while also getting rid of the dragon’s health. It’s not clear if he can steal health from the dragon more than once, however, so go off the notion it can only happen once.
As for the dragon, it has quite a number of abilities it can do. It can use Roar to lower your party’s stats by two ranks, while using Tarukaja/Rakukaja to buff itself. Having Dekunda on someone can really help with Roar, as you definitely don’t want your defence debuffed with the two AoE moves it can do. Dragon God’s Breath is one of those, but it’s purely Dark-elemental, while Tail Swipe is Strike-based and the other party-wide attack. You also want to be careful with Curse Chant, as Hex not only makes you take damage from your own attacks, but it also makes you get hit more from Dark.
Overall, other than the party-wide attacks, the dragon is a fairly easy boss fight. As long as you don’t use Light or Dark attacks (it resists those), then you can use whatever. Take advantage of Homo Margo’s weakness to wind to get extra Turn Icons, which you can then use on damaging the main boss, recovering, or simply doing something like getting rid of the debuffs. Note that once you defeat Margo, one of the two turns for the enemy each round will be wasted, so as long as the dragon doesn’t get a crit/strike a weakness, that’s all it will get.
After defeating Malvirta Drako Eht, watch the cutscenes that follow, but it seems like Homo Margo has escaped. It is going back to the village, so you hurry back to protect the place from the next boss!
