Metaphor: ReFantazio

Masked Dancer Archetype

By
Echo Apsey

The Masked Dancer is another of the basic Archetypes in Metaphor: ReFantazio. However, compared to every other class it is unique in that it can use “Masks” accessories to bring across skills from other Archetypes and expand its repertoire of abilities greatly, as well as alter its resistances. Each Mask you create in Akademeia will allow you to use these alternate skills. By default the Masked Dancer is weak to Electric damage and resistant to Ice.

Investing in the Masked Dancer will allow you to unlock its adept and elite forms: the Persona Master and Royal Masked Dancer. The Masked Dancer Archetype is a flexible class, built to change up its skills on the fly and can be a great choice for the protagonist.

How to unlock the Masked Dancer Archetype

The Masked Dancer is unlocked by bonding with Junah. Upon reaching Rank 1 with the bond, you will unlock the Archetype and can buy it with some MAG. This occurs during your free time late in the 08 month. Upon completing her quest, you can buy the Persona with MAG as you will form a bond with her.

Masked Dancer Skills

The Masked Dancer’s skills can be changed on the fly, but by default it has access to the following:

  • Victory Dance - [Hero Passive] Recovers HP and MP each time an enemy is stunned or defeated in overworld combat.
  • Infernal Vortex - Deals medium magic Fire damage to one enemy. May inflict Burn. (14 MP)
  • Art of Dance - [Passive] Increases success rate of skills that inflict status ailments
  • Masked Revelry - [Passive] Recovers a medium amount of caster’s MP every turn. Restores more if Archetypes of the same Lineage are present.
  • Crimson Flame - Deals heavy magic Fire damage to all enemies (42 MP)

As you can see, the base skills here aren’t all that great. Masked Revelry is decent, and the Fire damage is nice to have, but you really get a lot of use from the Masks that you can equip. The offer far more flexibility and variety in combat and paired with Skill Inheritance you can have a pretty diverse set of Skills.

Masked Dancer Synthesis Skills

The Masked Dancer has the following Synthesis Skills by default:

  • Hellfire Dance - Inflicts all enemies with a one-time weakness to Fire. Ignores resistances (26 MP) [Allies needed: Mage, Masked Dancer, or Summoner Lineages]
  • Ice-Blue Dance - Inflicts all enemies with a one-time weakness to Ice. Ignores resistances (26 MP) [Allies needed: Seeker, Mage, or Healer Lineages]
  • Sable Dance - Inflicts all enemies with a one-time weakness to Dark. Ignores resistances (26 MP) [Allies needed: Warrior, Thief, or Masked Dancer Lineages]
  • Danse Macabre - High chance of one-hit-killing all enemies (12 MP) [Allies needed: Thief, Faker, or Merchant Lineages]

Danse Macabre stands out, as while it is costly the ability to wipe out every enemy instantly can save you a lot of time, health, and MP in the long run by not needing to heal your team. The other three basic skills are also fantastic to be able to use a lot of the other skills in your party and tackle resistances enemies have. These Synthesis Skills can also change with each Mask, as the Lineages will be different.
