Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance

Sludge

By
Jarrod Garripoli
Portrait Description
Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance Screenshot A monster that has existed since prehistoric times. Their soft bodies lessen the blows of their enemies. When they’re hungry, they hide underground and pounce on other monsters. They usually wear a demon skull on their head to make themselves look stronger.

The Sludge is unlockable once you reach Episode 3, when a quest titled Secret to Jiggling appears in the Quest Shop. To complete it, you need to hand over an Unopened Soda. The Sludge’s role is definitely apparent whenever you look at its stats, as it has absurdly high DEF and most of its weapon resistances are amazing, too. However, where it truly lacks is in its elemental resistances, with all of them being in the negative. Basically, you will want the Sludge to tank any physical hits and to stay away from any elemental ones. The Sludge has one of the better defensive Evilities in the game, in case you’re building a defensive character. Lastly, all of the skills unique to the Sludge, including the two Magichange ones, have a chance to inflict Poison.

Evilities

The Sludge’s unique Evility, Gel Body, decreases the damage from non-elemental attacks by 50%. Suffice to say that this is one of the better defensive Evilities in the game and if you ever make a tanking character, then you will want this on them. Poisonous Matter gives the unit with this a 50% chance to inflict poison when attacking normally. As with all other similar Evilities, if you plan on using normal attacks a lot, Poison is one of the better ailments to have attached to it. Knuckle Guard increases fist resistance by 20% and like all other similar Evilities, you can simply increase it via Innocents.

Poison Gel and Weak Gel are similar to one another. When you are attacked by a non-elemental attack from an adjacent enemy, you will inflict either poison and/or weaken on that attacker, depending on the Evility equipped. There are easier ways to inflict either ailment on your enemies, without taking up precious Evility slots. Impact Charge will increase the unit’s attack by 10% every time they are attacked by a non-elemental attack. This could potentially be pretty good, but there are better options, like the Bear’s unique Evility granting a bonus for any attack.

Evility Slots Effect Req
Gel Body Unique Decreases non-elemental damage take by 50% Default
Poisonous Matter 2 50% chance to inflict poison when attacking normally Rank 2 Sludge
Knuckle Guard 3 Increases fist resistance by 20% Rank 3 Sludge
Poison Gel 4 When attacked by an adjacent non-elemental attack, inflict poison on attacker Rank 4 Sludge
Weak Gel 4 When attacked by an adjacent non-elemental attack, inflict weaken on attacker Rank 5 Sludge
Impact Charge 4 Increases attack by 10% every time unit is attacked by non-elemental attack Rank 6 Sludge
