Assassin's Creed: Valhalla

Seeking Shelter

By
Scott Peers

This page details how to complete the Seeking Shelter quest, part of the Dawn of Ragnarök DLC for AC Valhalla. There are four shelters in Svartalfheim, and this page covers exactly where to find the Jordber Shelter, Grenhellir Shelter, Jordegyr Shelter, and Hodda Shelter. We’ll also cover an overview of the basic services at each shelter.

All Shelters in Svartalfheim

Shelter Region Services
Jordber Shelter Gullnamar Blacksmith, Trading Post, Stable and Aviary, Reda’s Shop
Grenhellir Shelter Gullnamar Blacksmith, Trading Post, Tattoo Shop, Gemstone Collector, The Thousand Eyes
Jordegyr Shelter Svaladal Blacksmith, Trading Post, Tattoo Shop, Shipyard, Fishing Hut, Drinking Challenge, The Thousand Eyes
Hodda Shelter Vangrinn Blacksmith, Trading Post, Stable and Aviary, Barracks, The Thousand Eyes

Ravenous Thought Rune

There are two shelters in Gullnamar, and one in each of the other larger regions: Svaladal and Vangrinn. Each shelter offers basic services, and some special ones. The Blacksmiths will be particularly important as you upgrade your Hugr-Rip Bracer and improve your gear to the new Divine upgrade quality. However, the Fishing Hut at the Jordegyr Shelter also has a useful reward that you can trade fish for. The Ravenous Thought rune allows rations to replenish some Hugr at the cost of restoring less health. If you want to purchase the rune you’ll need to bring 1 Perch (big), 2 Pollock (small), and 1 Flatfish (small) to Snorra at the Fishing Hut.

Hreidmar’s Cursed Armor

In addition to the Ravenous Thought rune, there’s another unique item that you can obtain from the shelters in the form of Hreidmar’s Cursed Armor. You can find this on a pedestal at the Hodda shelter, but there’s a catch: the armor will slowly kill you if you wear it in its cursed state. If you want to wear it and take advantage of its set bonuses while also changing its appearance, you’ll need to find and socket a purifying Motsognir’s Clarity rune to each piece of the armor set. You can see exactly where to find these runes from our How to Use Hreidmar’s Cursed Armor page.

How to Find the Jordber Shelter

The first shelter that you encounter in Svartalfheim is the Jordber Shelter, which you’ll find as part of the Gift to the God quest. This is the easiest shelter to find since all you need to do is follow Sigrun and Halstein. However, you still need to identify the signs and follow them, using Odin’s Sight and your raven to highlight the path if necessary.

How to Find the Grenhellir Shelter

The Grenhellir Shelter is located southwest of the Jordber Shelter, within the same region of Gullnamar. This is a fairly easy shelter to find from the road heading south from the synchronization point shown in the image below. As you near the area of the Grenhellir Shelter on the map, you’ll see a barrel on the side of the road with a dwarven marking on it. From this site you should head directly south up the hill. You’ll eventually reach another barrel with some Hugr Blooms growing around it. Turn directly west from this to spot a hole in the ground, which leads into the shelter.

As you head south up the hill you’ll eventually reach the entrance to the shelter, shown in the gif below.

How to Find the Jordegyr Shelter

The Jordegyr Shelter is located in the Svaladal region, which is north of Gullnamar. A good place to start your search is from the synchronization point located north of the shelter, over a small lake, as shown in the image below. From here you can use the Power of the Raven to fly over the lake and reach the other side. In the woods below you’ll encounter a few wolves, but there should be no other obstacles once you’ve defeated them.

All you need to do from here is head directly southwest through the woods, until you reach an opening in the ground similar to the one you found at Grenhellir Shelter. Jumping down the hole will bring you directly to the shelter.

How to Find the Hodda Shelter

The Hodda Shelter is located in the western part of Svartalfheim, in the Vangrinn region. This is potentially the most difficult shelter to find, since its entrance is so small in a fairly open area. However, once you know where to look locating the entrance becomes just as easy as the others. You can get to the general area from one of three synchronization points.

The shelter is actually hidden behind a rockface to the west of the large waterfall. You can get inside from a small entrance shown in the gif below. You can face the waterfall properly by standing on the rock in the centre of the pool, then jump in the water and make your way up to the entrance, as shown in the gif below.
