This page details everything you need to know about how to fish in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. We cover how to construct the Fishing Hut in Ravensthorpe, how to acquire the Fishing Line, the best hotspots to find specific fish, and how to complete the Fantastic Fishes and Where to Find Them.
Getting Started with Fishing in AC Valhalla¶
Construct the Fishing Hut for the Fishing Line¶
The fishing system in AC: Valhalla is somewhat basic, but you’ll need to engage with it occasionally for specific quests, as with the altar mysteries such as Elisdon Altar. If you haven’t constructed the Fishing Hut in your settlement of Ravensthorpe, the only way you’ll be able to catch fish is by shooting them with your bow, or slashing at them with your melee weapons in shallow waters. These aren’t exactly the most reliable methods, but they can be quicker than regular fishing in the right circumstances. However, if you enjoy the prospect of a lazy day fishing with a line, you’ll need to construct the Fishing Hut to access it first.
Once you’ve constructed the Fishing Hut, you’ll be able to access the Fishing Line from your quick actions wheel, as shown below. You can cast the fishing line in almost any body of water throughout the world, but not all of them will be swarming with fish. In general, you’ll find plenty of fish in most rivers and off most coasts, but there are a couple of places worth noting for their abundance of fish. These are useful if all you want to do is hunt the fish to sell at a trading post, or to hand in at the Fishing Hut in your settlement for rewards such as runes, ingots, and settlement schematics.
Hotspots for Fish¶
You’ll find one of the highest concentrations of fish at Roaring Meg’s Spring, a small pond northeast of Lincoln. Another excellent location is the Wensum River, located directly north of the town of Northwic in East Anglia. Here you can stand up in the water and use melee weapons with a long reach, such as spears, to kill a lot of fish in a short amount of time. These are just two examples of reliable places where you will always find an abundance of fish, if you’re not necessarily looking for specific types. Wherever you find shallow waters, it’s worth checking to see whether they contain a high concentration of fish.
Speeding up the Process¶
If you’re fishing solely for the purposes of selling the fish to merchants or exchanging them for rewards, there are three things you can do to speed up the process. First, get the Auto-Loot skill from the Way of the Raven skill tree. As the name suggests, this will allow you to automatically loot anything that you kill (including fish) as soon as you kill it, allowing you to keep moving as you chase the fish through the water, rather than having to stop to loot each fish. Second, get the Heavy Dual Wield skill from the Way of the Bear skill tree. This will allow you to equip two two-handed weapons with long reach, such as spears, allowing you to kill the most amount of fish with each swing of your blades. Third, strip yourself of all armor, clothing, and weapons aside from those you need to hunt the fish. This will allow you to be as swift as possible as you run through the waters.
Where to Find Specific Fish¶
If you don’t know where to look for specific fish, it can be a bit of a pain to find them. Fortunately, the Trading Post in your settlement offers three documents which provide an overview of where to find specific fish throughout the game world. You’ll find the documents at the bottom of the Trading Post menu when you speak with Yanli, each entitled ‘Fantastic Fishes and Where to Find Them, available in parts I, II, and III. These would normally cost you 90, 160, and 180 silver respectively. However, we’ve listed their contents below so you won’t need to purchase them.
