This quest begins immediately afterThe Northern Reach. After securing the favor of some of Ulster’s kings by completing royal demands, it’s time to report to Flann at Clogher.
Report to Flann in Clogher¶
You’ll find Clogher in central Ulster. When you report to Flann you’ll find Ciara with him, both concerned about what may have happened to Barid. A plan is devised to infiltrate Aileach to find Barid, but to do that you’ll first need a Kings’ Pass. Ciara suggests that one might be found at Donegal, located directly west of Clogher. If you’re in control of the Dysert trade post, or if you’ve used the synchronization point near there, you can fast travel to it and then head south to reach Donegal quickly.
Find a Kings’ Pass at Donegal¶
When you reach Donegal you’ll find that it’s heavily guarded. You need to be anonymous when you enter the fort, but once inside you can cause as much chaos as you want. To make it as easy as possible you can start a raid and take the Trade Post Supplies while you’re here. If you just want to get the pass and leave, you need to find a Man at Arms. There are a few patrolling the fort, and you can locate them by using your bird to scout and Odin’s Sight to highlight them in teal. All you need to do is kill one Man at Arms to loot the pass from them, then make your way to Aileach in the northeast.
Meet the Kings at Aileach¶
Now that you have a Kings’ Pass, you can enter Aileach and meet the other kings without any trouble. Just walk up to the objective marker to trigger a brief dialogue with a guard, followed by a cutscene. The cutscene will reveal that Barid is safe, and is playing a drunk while throwing hints at Eivor. King Niall and King Domnall try to assure Eivor that there’s nothing untoward going on, but Eivor takes the hint from Barid and decides that he should search the prison for a man named Fergal, who Barid mentioned.
Find and Free the Prisoners¶
After the scene with Barid and the two kings, it’s time to infiltrate the prison and free the prisoners. You’ll find the prison just outside where you met with the kings, since it’s within Aileach. You can use your bird to scout the area, but you’ll find an entrance on the eastern side of the ringfort to enter unseen. Alternatively, you can charge in and assault the prison with caution thrown to the wind, but you can make that judgement based on your confidence in battle.
Once you’re in the prison you’ll need to locate the warden, and kill them to loot the key to the prison doors. With the key in hand you can free Flann’s warriors and kill all the guards within the prison together. This will take some time since there are quite a few guards, but none are particularly dangerous so it shouldn’t be too difficult. When all the guards in the prison are dead, you’ll need to take control of Aileach by killing any remaining guards in the settlement.
