Description¶
This page will offer a guide on where to locate and how to defeat the Legendary Animal, Beast of the Hills, in Sciropescire.
Tips for Fighting the Beast¶
The Beast of the Hill is a giant bear who has become drunk off of barrels of wine in a cellar beneath Uriconium Ruins. To reach him, you’ll need to head down a tunnel on the edge of the ruins. This is an interesting fight because the bear is very drunk and sometimes his attacks might appear weak and feeble, but beware since he actually does do a lot of damage! After he’s taken a lot of damage, he will become quite erratic and his attacks will be chaotic and quick. The bear is also very tanky, so this fight might take a little longer than you might think.
Below is a list of tips that you should consider before engaging in a fight with the bear:
-
Brush with Death skill - Successfully dodging with ‘Brush with Death’ equipped will trigger a slowed time period during which you’ll be able to get in some uncontested attacks.
-
Grit skill - The ‘Grit’ skill is great for heavy-hitting boss fights as you’ll regain a portion of your recently lost health by successfully landing a melee hit on an enemy. It’ll mean you don’t have to eat your rations as often!
- Last Chance Healing skill - When you hit critically low health, it will trigger a slowed time period giving you the opportunity to retreat or to heal. This is great against the bear’s strong one-shotting attacks.
-
Hit his Weak Points early on - When you first enter the lair, the bear will be distracted drinking wine. During this short period, you’ll be able to get in a few shots at his weak points, which are found on each of his back legs and on his abdomen. You’ll be able to get two of his weak points even before he’s reached you, and then aim to get the other one when you see an opening. Getting all weak points will deplete his stamina and you’ll be able to get in a powerful Stun Attack.
-
Stock up on rations before entering the fight - There are no rations within the beast’s lair, so you should make sure to grab some from outside the tunnel first. His attacks will chunk you for a lot of health so you might find yourself in need of a full stock of rations!
Fighting the Beast of the Hills¶
Though the bear is drunk and chaotic in his attacks, he does have some main attacks that you should keep an eye out for:
The Beast of the Hills’ Attacks¶
-
Light attack (orange) - The light attacks, done either by clawing or biting, can be parried but most of his attacks are red attacks, meaning you’ll likely want to focus on dodging.
-
Swipe attack (red) - The bear will swing his arm at you and claw you for a large portion of your health.
-
Body Slam (orange/red) - The body slam can sometimes be an orange attack, so it is parryable, but it is also a very damaging attack since he just drops all of his weight onto you. They can also be a power move, which will be even more of a brutal attack, so it might be best to just dodge all body slamming attacks to avoid any unnecessary damage.
-
Charge attack (red) - Occasionally the bear will stand on his hind legs then charge at you to knock you down. You’ll need to dodge this attack as it’s not parryable.
During this fight, you’ll first want to take out his weak points to drain his stamina and get in a quick stun attack. You can parry his orange attacks, but you might want to focus more on dodging, since his power attacks are so damaging. The Grit ability is great for replenishing lost health and making sure you don’t use up all of your rations. There are no extra rations in the bear’s lair so you’ll need to be careful with using up all your rations early.
However, one huge tip to live by during this fight is to not dodge too much. It’s tempting to do so because the bear is so erratic but being drained of stamina will leave you open to taking loads of damage. Your best bet is to just stay relatively still and only dodge if he’s about to power attack or you don’t have the timings right for a successful parry attack.
Once you’ve defeated the bear, you’ll earn the Beast of the Hills’ Head trophy and +2 Skill Points.
