Use Dive of the Valkyries¶
The key to obtaining the gold medal in this trial is to use the Dive of the Valkyries ability as often as possible. It may seem counterintuitive at first, but the ability will allow you to dive in the air and land at great distances in front of you, or even above you at times. The distance you can travel with this ability is far more than it initially seems, so keep that in mind when using it.
You won’t need to use the ability for the opponent who wields a shield near the beginning of the trial. You should instead chain heavy attacks to break through their shield and finish them off quickly. You’ll see the next opponent on a platform just in front of you, which you can only access on foot by going around the obstacles to your right. Attempting to go around on foot wastes a lot of time, so don’t bother doing this and instead use the Dive of the Valkyries ability to leap onto the platform and land on the enemy, inflicting significant damage. You can then finish them off with a few swift melee strikes.
It’s important to keep in mind that Dive of the Valkyries automatically hones in on an enemy location, so you’ll need to be facing a specific enemy to ensure that the ability takes you forward towards them. You should be able to jump great distances from one platform to another using the ability, but you’ll need to be reasonably level with each platform. You won’t be able to dive from the ground up to a very high platform, for example, but if there’s only a slight increase in height you can assume that you’ll make it.
You may find that you’ll need a few test runs as you get to grips with the mechanics of the Dive of the Valkyries ability, and as you get a feel for how far it can take you when used. Don’t be afraid to try jumps that you might not otherwise think you can make. You’ll be surprised by what the ability can do!
You can see the Dive of the Valkyries ability being used to travel across platforms in the gif below. You can also see that the timer stops when a stun finisher is being executed.
Make Use of Heavy Attacks for Stun Finishers¶
Alongside using the Dive of the Valkyries ability, you should make good use of heavy attacks, especially against some of the heavily armored elites that you’ll face in the trial. If you hit them with a chain of heavy attacks they will lose all of their stamina and become immune to stun attack finishers. This will allow you to kill them in one fell move, and the timer will stop as Eivor performs the fancy choreography for the finisher, so you don’t need to worry about this taking up any time.
As you move through each area of the trial, be sure to use Odin’s Sight as often as possible. This will give you a good idea of where all the enemies are in relation to your current location, and you’ll know roughly how many are left to defeat. In all, there are only 13 enemies to kill during the trial. The main difficulty you’ll find is accessing them and eating through the greater health of the elites. Keep using Dive of the Valkyries in the last area of the trial to stagger the elites, and to jump onto the platforms where archers are stationed. If you have no adrenaline left to use the ability, combine heavy attacks with light attacks to retain your stamina and force a stun finisher.
It may take a few attempts before you feel even close to completing this trial within 2 minutes, but if you follow the above tips you should find it easier with each run, and you can have as much as 30+ seconds left by the time you’ve killed all the enemies at the end of the trial. Familiarizing yourself with the terrain is the most important thing here: don’t get caught out by missing a ladder, or not timing a dive correctly, and smash through the obstacles as soon as you come across them.
