The Swan-Road Home

This page details a guide for The Swan-Road Home main quest in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, part of the Battle for the Northern Way story arc in England.

This quest begins after The Seas of Fate. You’re now in England, travelling upriver in search of the sons of Ragnar Lothbrok.

Release the Naval Chain

As you head upriver, an obstacle presents itself in the form of a naval chain, blocking the way. Eivor volunteers to remove it, while everyone else remains in the ships. From the ship, head south toward the camp, from which the naval chain is guarded. You have two options here; take out all the guards in the camp by force, either with stealth kills or by charging through berserker-style, or sneak into the camp from the water, passing under a bridge from the east. There’s no good reason other than for role-playing purposes to sneak into the camp, or for the challenge of seeing if you’re able to do it, so we’d recommend you take out the guards for the extra XP and potential loot.

(1 of 4) To remain undetected, approach the camp from the east and move under the bridge.

Once you’re in the building where the naval chain mechanism is located, take out the guard and loot the room. You can then climb the ladder and shoot the chain to release it. Be sure to read the note on the barrel within the building for some interesting context about the use of the chain. When you’re ready, either after killing all the guards or just the one inside the building, shoot the chain links to render the chain useless, then rejoin your crew on the ship to complete the quest, leading immediately into Unwelcome.
