This page will offer guidance on which Pokémon Starter you should pick in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. It will detail all we know so far about the starters and their types and moves. But ultimately, most people will choose their starter based on their preferences and the Pokémon’s aesthetic!
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Starters¶
The three starters in this installment in the Pokémon franchise will be Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly! On this page you’ll find everything we know about the Starters! Remember, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet has an open world so you could switch out your starter Pokémon for something more to your tastes pretty early on!
Grass Type Starter: Sprigatito¶
Sprigatito is an adorable Grass Cat Pokémon is a Grass-type with the classic Overgrow ability, boosting its Grass-type attacks when its HP falls below a third. Sprigatito starts off knowing the moves, Scratch (Normal), Tail Whip (Normal) and Leafage (Grass). Leafage isn’t a particularly strong early game move, however, Sprigatito’s evolutions do learn some very powerful grass type moves that make this starter (arguably) the most powerful of the three!
We won’t list out the evolutions here as we don’t want to spoil anything for you but head over to our Sprigatito Evolutions page for a breakdown of all evolutions and learnsets!
Fire Type Starter: Fuecoco¶
Fuecoco the smiley Fire Croc Pokémon is a Fire-type with the Blaze ability, common for Fire-type starters, which boosts its Fire-type attacks in a pinch. Fuecoco starts off knowing Tackle (Normal), Leer (Normal) and Ember (Fire). Ember is a particularly strong early game move as it has a 10% chance of applying burn, which will deal damage each turn!

Water Type Starter: Quaxly¶
Quaxly the Duckling Pokémon with a fancy hair-do is a Water-type with the Torrent ability, enhancing its Water-type attacks when it has low HP. Quaxly starts off knowing Pound, Growl and Water Gun. Water Gun is an alright water-type move, but later on it’ll learn some really powerful moves! Water types are usually a great all round Pokémon!
