When you catch a Pokemon, you will be able to name them. If you’re in a rush or aren’t sure about using that particular Pokemon on your team, though, you will likely skip this option. To fix this, Pokemon always have the option to change your partner’s name later on. Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet don’t have a name rater, though, so you’re likely wondering how this process is done. Below we go over how to easily change the name of your Pokemon.

How to Easily Change Your Pokemon’s Name in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet

To change your Pokemon’s names, you don’t need to find a special NPC. Instead, just follow the simple steps below to rename your Pokemon.

  1. Press Joy-Con-ButtonX to open up your main menu.
  2. Go to your Pokemon and press Joy-Con-ButtonA.
  3. Go to their summary and press Joy-Con-ButtonA.
  4. Hit Joy-Con-ButtonX, this will bring
  5. This will bring up the menu. Simply type in your name and confirm it!

You can only change the name of the Pokemon currently in your party. You can’t change the name of the Pokemon you traded for, and there are words that are blocked by the profanity filter that will be restricted.
