Pokemon has had quite a few gimmicks in its time. Some notable ones that affect battles are Mimikyu’s disguise and the fact that Magikarp can only use the move splash. It’s no surprise that Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet have some special gimmicks of their own. One of the most popular comes with the new Pokemon Palafin, which you will need to do a bit of work to obtain anyways. The guide below goes over how to get your very own Palafina and how to gain access to the Palafin Hero Form in battle.
How to Get Palafin¶
Getting Palafin is a bit tricky as it is a special evolution. We have a full guide on how to get and evolve Finizen into Palafin here. To keep things short, though, once you get Palafin, which can be found near the many beaches in Paldea. You will need to level up Palafin when playing with friends once or after it reaches level 38.
How to Get Palafin Hero Form¶
Palafin doesn’t evolve again. You will probably notice that Finizin and Palafin don’t really look that different. This is because Palafin has a secret Hero Form that can activate when you are in battle. Its normal form is called Zero Form, but if you switch it out while in battle it will turn into Hero Form in its Pokeball.
When you throw Palafin back out, it will already be in this form. The two look incredibly different from each other, so it’s easy to tell when the form switch happens. As long as Palafin doesn’t faint, it will stay in this form for the entire duration of the battle. Once the battle is over, though, it goes back to Zero Form.
What Does Palafin’s Hero Form Do?¶
Palafin’s Hero form isn’t just for decoration. It greatly changes the stats of the Pokemon. The only two stats that don’t receive a boost are health and speed. Its attack, and special attack will be greatly increased, and defense and special defense will get a small boost. Here is a table giving you a look at Palafin’s forms.
Form | Base Attack | Base Special Attack | Base Defense | Base Special Defense |
---|---|---|---|---|
Zero Form | 70 | 53 | 72 | 62 |
Hero Form | 160 | 106 | 97 | 87 |
As you can see, there is a significant difference when using Palafin’s Zero and Hero Form in battle. You should always try to swap out your Palafin so that you can take full advantage of his power when in battle. Depending on what strategy you use in battle, though, you may just want to go with another Pokemon, as switching out and back in Palafin does use up a turn or two, depending on how the battle goes.
