Diablo 4 embraces deeper customization than ever before and one of the main features is a Transmog system that allows you to customize the look of your character.
How to Salvage and Change Your Appearance with the Wardrobe¶
You’ll need to progress through the Prologue of Diablo 4 until you reach Kyovashad, at which point you’ll be free to start exploring the world of Sanctuary at your own leisure. Although a lot of gameplay systems are still locked by Level or the story, the ability to Salvage and change your appearance is not.
Before you can even think about changing your appearance with the Transmog system, you’ll first need to salvage some of the gear you’ve obtained up to this point to add it to your list of possible options. Head on over to the Blacksmith (anvil icon) and you’ll see the option to Salvage your equipment. At this point in the game, anything that offers lower stats is fair game, so go ahead and choose to salvage all of your Common Items, and any Magic pieces that are obsolete. Not only will these give you valuable resources, but also added the cosmetic options to your list of Transmog options.
Now make your way over to the Inn (the wardrobe icon) and you’ll be able to go upstairs to one of the rooms. Inside you’ll find your personal stash where you can leave items in there for other characters, or to just free up space. More importantly, you’ll find the Wardrobe in here which, when you interact with it, you’ll access the Transmog System.
Pigments and Ensembles¶
You’ll find each equipment slot here for all of your weapons and armor, and once you click on a slot, you’ll find all of the available options based on what you’ve salvaged so far at the Blacksmith. Once you click on an option, you’ll find the available pigments for that look, allowing you to alter the color of your new getup.
There’s also an option to create an Ensemble, a loadout of such of a group of cosmetics you’ve equipped. You’ll only have the one Ensemble slot to begin with, but you can soon upgrade it with more slots, starting at 2,500 Gold. This will become a very important feature as you amass a lot of different pieces of equipment for your Wardrobe.
