When it comes to gameplay, Diablo 4 is a fairly complicated game, with various stats, damage types, buffs, cooldowns, resource costs, and various modifiers flying about. All in all, there are a lot of variables, and it’s therefore not surprising that finding consistency and balance between different skills and builds within a class is understandably difficult, much less between five different classes all with their own skill trees and paragon boards. That said, Patch 1.2.0a largely focused on boosting underperforming skills and classes, and while the new Vampiric Powers introduced in the Season of Blood (Season 2) managed to tip the scales a bit, there’s generally something for everybody there. You’ll see a lot of familiar faces at the top of Season 2’s tier list, but there are also some newcomers worth mentioning, and some tweaks and adjustments made to old builds. This page will provide a list of what, in our experience, appear to be the best classes for Season 2 in Diablo 4.
Ball Lightning Sorcerer¶
Sorcerers have been in a rough place for a while now, and although this hasn’t stopped us from enjoying our Ice Shards Sorcerer in previous patches, it’s hard to ignore how much faster other builds have been clearing content. The Ball Lightning Sorcerer helps even the odds and bring a struggling class into the top tier, turning the Sorcerer into a close-range destroyer whose orbiting Ball Lightning spells - along with Unstable Currents and the Ball Lightning and Chain Lightning enchantments - destroy anything foolish enough to get close. It’s an expensive build, requiring the Gravitational Aspect to even get off the ground, and endgame builds require a few rare unique drops, but if you’re willing to put in the work, it’s a glorious return-to-form for one of Diablo‘s most venerable classes. Check out the [Ball Lightning Sorcerer Build Guide] for more information on how to create this character, which will use the following Vampiric Powers when it’s up and running:
- Anticipation
- Domination
- Metamorphosis
- Prey on the Weak
- Ravenous
Blood Surge Necromancer¶
While it’s not the most potent endgame build nor the best bosser by a wide margin, the Blood Surge Necromancer has a lot going for it - it’s simple, powerful, clears mobs wonderfully, and it’s a true Lv1 - 100 build. You won’t have to respec, and the way you play at the beginning of the game will more or less be how you’re playing at the end of the game… you know, once you get through the first few levels and start unlocking your core skills. Run around with a merry mob of skeletal soldiers and shoot out novas of blood, destroying everything in your path. With many ways to proc Overpower (and a few other debuffs aside), you’ll melt most enemies in the game, and even better, you’ll heal a good bit while doing so, making this a tanky, if inelegant build that’s ideal for players who want to turn off their brain, kill demons, and farm for shiny loot. Check out our [Blood Surge Necromancer Build Guide] for more information, and if you’re already familiar with the Blood Surge Necromancer, just add the following Vampiric Powers to update it for Season 2:
- Blood Boil
- Feed the Coven
- Hemomancy
- Metamorphosis
- Undying
Pulverize Druid¶
Another familiar face, the Pulverize Druid has long been one of the top-builds in the game. You turn into a bear and smash things with Pulverize, bolstering your massive AoE damage with Overpower. It’s a fairly simple build that in many ways resembles the Blood Surge Necromancer, save that the Blood Surge Necromancer is a bit easier at the beginning of the game, since the Pulverize Druid needs to find the Shockwave Offensive Aspect to really get things rolling. Check out our page for the Pulverize Druid, and to make it work for Season 2, add the following Vampiric Powers:
- Accursed Touch
- Anticipation
- Blood Boil
- Prey on the Weak
- Ravenous
Twisting Blades Rogue¶
The more things change, the more they stay the same - the Twisting Blades Rogue has remained a top-tier build for pretty much the entirety of Diablo 4‘s commercial existence, and that hasn’t changed in Season 2. A fast, frenetic melee build that actually requires some skill on the part of the player to pull off, the Twisted Blades Rogue hasn’t changed a whole lot since launch - check out our Twisted Blades Rogue Guide to touch up on the basics. For Season 2, you’ll want to use the following Vampiric Powers:
- Accursed Touch
- Moonrise
- Prey on the Weak
- Ravenous
- Undying
