Diablo IV

How to Unlock the Metamorphosis Vampiric Power - Diablo 4 Season 2

By
Nathan Garvin

There are twenty-two Vampiric Powers available to characters during Season 2 (Season of Blood) of Diablo 4, of which five can be equipped at a time. These Vampiric Powers give the player unique abilities, enhancing their strengths of filling gaps in their arsenal. One of the most popular Vampiric Powers is Metamorphosis, but it also takes quite a lot of effort to unlock. This page will discuss what makes Metamorphosis useful to so many builds, and how to obtain it.

(1 of 2) Metamorphosis is a greater vampiric power in Season 2 of Diablo 4.

Metamorphosis Vampiric Power in Diablo 4

Metamorphosis is a greater Vampiric Power with the following stats:

Vampiric Power Effect Unlock Pacts
Metamorphosis When you Evade you turn into a cloud of bats, becoming Unstoppable for 2 seconds. Enemies along your path take 80% Physical damage and are inflicted with Vampiric Curse. Complete A Serpent Cornered Pact of Ferocityx2 Pact of Divinityx2 Pact of Eternityx2

Its prized effect should be pretty obvious - it makes you Unstoppable, allows you to dodge through enemies, deals damage to them, and best of all, inflicts them with a Vampiric Curse. On their own, Vampiric Curses don’t do a whole lot, ticking up a soul counter when you kill a cursed enemy and unleashing these stored souls on enemies to deal damage whenever you perform a Defensive, Macabre or Agility skill. It’s… a fine source of supplemental damage, but nothing outstanding, or even particularly noteworthy. Where Metamorphosis becomes interesting, however, is when it’s paired with the Prey on the Weak Vampiric Power, which has the following stats:

Vampiric Power Effect Unlock Pacts
Prey on the Weak You deal 8% increased damage to Vulnerable enemies. Enemies are Vulnerable while affected by a Vampiric Curse from your other Vampiric Powers. Potent Blood Pact of Ferocityx2

Enemies afflicted with a Vampiric Curse count as Vulnerable, and you also deal +8% (up to +16%) damage to Vulnerable foes. Dash through enemies and you’ll score a solid damage boost; simple, powerful, effective, and useful for most classes, especially ones that don’t have a native way to impose the Vulnerable debuff on enemies.

To unlock Metamorphosis, you must complete the season questline by defeating Lord Zir.

How to Unlock Metamorphosis

There are a variety of ways to unlock Vampiric Powers - usually, you’ll just spend 25x Potent Blood to get a random selection of three Vampiric Powers and whichever one you select will either be upgraded or unlocked. Others still require you to earn Hunter Acclaim (usually by prowling Blood Harvest events) to unlock. Finally, some are unlocked by progressing through the season questline, and Metamorphosis falls into the latter camp. Unfortunately, the season quest you must complete to unlock Metamorphosis, A Serpent Cornered, happens to the the last season quest, so you’ll need to play through the entire Season 2 questline and defeat "Lord Zir" iconLord Zir to get access to Metamorphosis. This will require you to delve into a few dungeons, brave the Blood Harvest, and generally do things you should want to do anyway. On the plus side, you’ll also unlock the Undying, Ravenous, Hectic and Moonrise vampiric powers.
