How to Get the Ghost Horse Spectral Charger in Diablo 4

By
Nathan Garvin

If you’ve been playing Diablo 4, you’ve probably noticed some malcontent riding around on a spectral steed, flaunting their affluence for the covetous eyes of others to fixate upon. If so, you’ve undoubtedly also wondered how you can acquire this ghost horse, the Spectral Charger mount, in Diablo 4? Also, how does one affix a saddle upon an incorporeal steed? Does it eat phantasmal carrots? If so, does it excrete ectoplasm? Can you infer anything about the ghost horses condition by looking it in the mouth? We can’t answer all of those, sadly, but we can tell you where to find the Spectral Charger in Diablo 4!

The Spectral Charger is a much sought-after mount in Diablo 4.

How to Get the Ghost Horse Spectral Charger Mount in Diablo 4

There are generally a few ways to get new mounts in Diablo 4 - buying them from Stablemasters, purchasing them from the in-game shop, redeeming preorder bonuses, or even finding them as drops. None of the mounts you can get perform any differently from other mounts, the differences are purely cosmetic. Still, if you want a ghostly steed to convey you around Sanctuary, you’re in luck, as the Spectral Charger mount is free… if you can find it.

To obtain the Spectral Charger you must first complete the main campaign, as this is a precondition for Legion Events, which will only start appearing once you’ve beaten the game. You do not need to unlock World Tier 3 (Nightmare difficulty), however. Once you’ve reached post-game Sanctuary, you need to scan your map for Legion Events, which are marked by a unique icon when they’re about to start. Legion Events occur periodically in random areas, and if you don’t spot one on your map you’ll need to wait. When you find a Legion Event, fast travel nearby and ride over to its start location - Legion Events are timed, so if you aren’t quick you may miss out. Just don’t take the timer on the map too seriously, as there’s a bit of leeway and you can often make it even if you don’t fast travel to a nearby Waypoint until there are only a few seconds left.

The Spectral Charger mount is a random drop you may obtain as a reward for completing Legion Events. Legion Events are basically open world, multiplayer events where you’re tasked with killing enemies as quickly as possible in order to spawn Servants of Hell, and, ultimately, the legion’s Overlord. The more Servants of Hell you’re able to spawn and defeat before facing the legion’s Overlord, the more Resplendent Chests you’ll earn at the end, up to a maximum of three Resplendent Chests for killing three Servants of Hell. It’s from these chests that the "Ghastly Reins" iconGhastly Reins can drop - just use it from your inventory to unlock the Spectral Charger. Even if you don’t find the mount you’re after, the Resplendent Chests earned for completing Legion Events drop numerous rares (potentially legendaries!), crafting materials, Murmuring Obols and even the odd Nightmare Sigil, so they’re well worth doing. Unfortunately, since they’re multiplayer focused events they can be difficult or downright impossible to fully complete without a good group, so a bit of luck and patience may be required, even without the added complication of RNG.

Keep running Legion Events whenever you see them and you should score yourself this ghostly mount eventually.
