Blizzard Entertainment has revealed how the Diablo 4 Battle Pass system will work upon launch. The r blog post published on May 10, 2023, featured an update on Diablo 4’s seasonal functions, including its extension and synergy with the upcoming Battle Pass system. Diablo 4 Battle Pass System Explained¶

- Price: Equivalent of $9.99 or $24.99 USD depending on a premium purchase or tier skip version.
- Tiers: 90 tiers a season. 27 are free tiers

With the update from Blizzard during their live stream, we got to see how exactly the Battle Pass system works in D4. The main thing we need to know is that the Battle Passes are seasonal content, which will begin with the launch of season 1 sometime around mid to late July, Once the season launches, the Battle Pass will to, and will come to an end roughly towards the very very back end of the season. Once the new season arrives, a new Battle Pass will begin, and players will once again buy or play through the new one.
As for season, and therefore Battle Pass length, expect a season to last around around three months. Blizzard has previously stated that players can expect four seasons a year. The first one is due to start around mid to late July, giving players around six weeks to play D4 and get up to speed before they can continue the main storyline, which will update at the start of season 1.
Diablo 4 Battlepass Features¶
With every new Battle Pass, players will find that there are several things you can get, which are:
- Free cosmetics - Free Tier Rewards
- Smoldering Ashes - Free Tier Rewards
- Platinum - Premium Tier Rewards
- Premium Cosmetics: - Premium Rewards
The main thing you need to know is that cosmetics in the Battle Pass are seasonal-themed. The free cosmetics will be the more basic or limited nice parts that Blizzard wants to give away. While the Premium cosmetics will be the full-fledged season-themed cosmetics they have put into it. Premium purchasers will also get Platinum, which is the premium currency used in the store. This currency is also the currency used to buy the Battle Pass, which different store amounts available for real-world currency.
The final reward is the Smoldering Ashes, which is available as the free tier rewards. These Smoldering Ashes are important to collect, with players able to spend them at specific times of seasonal progression to buy buffs, with further upgrades to those buffs to grant even better rewards from them. The only time you can spend them though is when you get certain milestones in the season, so you don’t need to worry about pay-to-win scenarios.
