During the introductory quests of Diablo 4 Season 1, players are tasked with exploring the new Malignant Tunnels, the homes of very corrupted enemies. As part of your journey, you are given a quest called ‘A Plague of Hatred’ to find a Brutal Overgrowth. Here’s how to find a Brutal Overgrowth in Diablo 4.
Where to Find a Brutal Overgrowth During Season 1 of Diablo 4¶
So, while on the mission, you shall be directed to a Malignant Tunnel. You can find these with the dungeon icon you find on the world map, albeit with a green symbol on them. If you zoom out, you will instead see small green dots on the world map, rather than the usual white dots. When inside, you can find isolated rooms at some point in the dungeon. These rooms can contain a Malignant mess, with two tumor-looking things sticking out at the end of them. Typically, they can be two of four of the Malignant Hearts Types.
In this case, for the quest, you’re looking for a Brutal Overgrowth. The Brutal Overgrowths are typically marked in the ghostly blue color, as shown in the screenshot above. When you encounter any form of these Overgrowths, you must have the appropriate Invoker item, which you can craft from the new Malignant Research benches you can find in all cities.
If you have your Brutal Overgrowth Invoker, then you can interact with the Brutal Overgrowth. Doing so will spawn any enemy to defeat, in which you can grab a caged heart corresponding to that Overgrowth hearth type. So, activating a Brutal Overgrowth can award the following Malignant Hearts:
Malignant Heart | Type | Effect | Class |
---|---|---|---|
The Lionheart | Brutal | Defensive: You gain 10% Barrier Generation. You Heal 3-7 Life per second while you have an active Barrier. | All |
Revenge | Brutal | Defensive-World Tier III: 10-20% of incoming damage is instead suppressed. When you use a Defensive, Subterfuge or a Macabre skill, all suppressed damage is amplified by 250% and explodes, dealing up to 1360-2040 Fire damage to Nearby enemies. | All |
Prudent Heart | Brutal | Defensive-World Tier III: You become Immune for 2.0-4.0 seconds after you lose more than 20% Life in a single hit. This effect can only occur once every 110 seconds. | All |
Resurgent Life | Brutal | Defensive: While below 40-60% Life, you receive 50-60% more Healing from all sources. | Barbarian |
The Agitated Winds | Brutal | Defensive: When 8-13 Close enemies, automatically cast Cyclone Armor. This cannot occur more than once every 10-20 seconds. | Druid |
The Decrepit Aura | Brutal | Defensive: When at least 5 enemies are near you, gain an aura that automatically curses surrounding enemies with Decrepify for 5-15 seconds. | Necromancer |
Trickery | Brutal | Defensive: When you use a Subterfuge Skill, leave behind an unstable Shadow Decoy Trap that Taunts enemies. The Shadow Decoy Trap will explode after 6.0 seconds dealing 680-1020 Shadow damage. Cannot occur more than once every 5 seconds. | Rogue |
Spellbreaking | Brutal | Defensive: After taking Elemental damage, gain 20-40% Resistance to that element for 5 seconds. | Sorcerer |
Remember, the same rule applies to all the other forms of Malignant Heart Types. If you activate a Vicious Overgrowth, you will need a Vicious Invoker, and then you will get a random Invoker reward. The same again for Wrathful and Devious. You see a full list of what different hearts you can get for your build by peering at our Diablo 4 Malignant Heart List. That way, you have an idea of what hearts you want for your build.
And there you have it; you now know what you need to do to get the Brutal Overgrowth in Diablo 4. You also now have a better idea of how activating all types of Overgrowths works inside these Malignant Tunnels.
