No matter how many times heroes smite the Prime Evils and rescue Sanctuary from the threat of demonic possession, the nature of humanity never seems to improve. Thievery, banditry and extortion run rampant, even without the direct intervention of the Daughter of Hatred, giving an aspiring adventure plenty of busywork to do. This page provides a walkthrough for the side quest Gold Well Spent, which can be found in Sarkova Pass.
How to Start Gold Well Spent in Diablo 4¶
One of the earliest side quests you’ll have access to, all you need to do is head northwest from Kyovashad to reach the more humble settlement of Menestad, wherein you’ll find a man named Meros. Talk to him and he’ll tell you he ran afoul of a ne’er-do-well named Luskas, who stole some gemstones. Turnabout is fair play - if you steal the gemstones back, Meros offers to make it worth your while, starting this quest.
How to Find and Defeat Luskas¶
Luskas is holed up in a camp north, northwest of Menestad - just follow the road out and when you see the signs of bandit activity - abandoned wagons, makeshift barricades, the usual - head east over a natural stone bridge. Luskas is a big lunk, and is completely unrepentant to boot, promising that Meros will pay for attempting to reclaim his stolen gemstones by proxy. Naturally this means you won’t be friends.
His sheer mass should indicate the sort of danger Luskas poses; he’s big, plodding, and hits like a truck. He’s also an elite enemy, and may have traits (ours had Frozen, but higher level variants may have more). Despite that, Luskas isn’t really the threat here - his underlings are. Luskas is just too slow to easily land a lot of hits, but the “Throatslitters” that accompany him can inflict bleed and are capable of turning invisible before striking. If they all appear and strike in a short period of time, they can easily cut through most of your health bar in a quick succession of attacks, and even if they don’t kill you outright, their bleed damage might prove fatal after a few seconds.
Be prepared for this onslaught and be ready to heal. After you defeat the !Throatslitters and Luskas’s more mundane marauders you can turn your attention to the brute himself. He’s tanky, as his bulk implies, but at long as you don’t trade blows with him in melee (sorry Barbarians) or at least avoid his overhead slam attack, you should be fine. Defeat Luskas and he’ll drop a Payment of Gemstones. Pick it up and return to Meros to earn your reward - a Cache, some XP and Gold.
