Diablo IV

Uber Boss Loot Tables - Diablo 4 Season 2

By
Nathan Garvin

While legendary items are every build’s bread and butter, our hearts cry out for uniques. Proper itemization, with recognizable names… legendaries do the heavy lifting, but the odd unique is often required to really make a build pop in Diablo 4. Fortunately, in Season 2 several uber bosses were added to the game which are virtually guaranteed to drop a unique when defeated. These bosses require specific resources to summon and their drop tables vary - generally higher-level bosses will drop superior uniques. This page will provide information about what uniques each uber boss can drop, including Grigoire, the Echo of Varshan, "Lord Zir" iconLord Zir, the Beast in the Ice and "Duriel, Maggot King" iconDuriel, Maggot King.

How to Summon Uber Bosses in Diablo 4

There are five uber bosses in Diablo 4, and none of them can be encountered without special materials. Generally the routine is simple enough - farm the materials each boss requires (Duriel, Maggot King complicates things but requiring you to defeat Grigoire and the Echo of Varshan in World Tier IV to get the materials required to summon him), travel to a special mini-dungeon, sacrifice said materials on some altar or another, then defeat said boss. In the table below you’ll find the basic information you need about how to summon each of the game’s uber bosses of of Season 2:

Boss Max Lv Materials Required Materials Location Boss Dungeon
Duriel, Maggot King 100 Mucous-Slick Egg x2, Shard of Agony x2 Defeat "Tormented Echo of Varshan" iconTormented Echo of Varshan and "Grigoire, The Galvanic Saint" iconGrigoire, The Galvanic Saint Gaping Crevasse (Southern Expanse, Kehjisan)
"Tormented Echo of Varshan" iconTormented Echo of Varshan 75 Blackened Femur, Gurgling Head x1, Malignant Heart x1, Trembling Hand x1 Whispers of the Dead Caches, Grotesque Debtors Malignant Burrow (The Writhing Mire, Hawezar)
Grigoire, Galvanic Saint 75 "Living Steel" iconLiving Steel x2 or x5 Helltides (Tortured Gift of "Living Steel" iconLiving Steel chests - 300 "Aberrant Cinder" iconAberrant Cinders) Hall of the Penitent (Dindai Flats, Dry Steppes)
"Lord Zir" iconLord Zir 80 Exquisite Blood x9 Legion Events, World Bosses "The Darkened Way" iconThe Darkened Way (Gale Valley, Factured Peaks)
"The Beast in the Ice" iconThe Beast in the Ice 85 Distilled Fear x9, "Sigil Powder" iconSigil Powder x250 Tier 30+ Nightmare Dungeons Glacial Fissure (Desolate Highlands, Fractured Peaks)

Different bosses have different unique drop pools, although the quality of the gear they drop - both in terms of the rarity of the uniques and the Item Power of any item dropped, unique or otherwise, is a function of the boss’s level. If you want the rarest and most powerful gear in the game, you’ll need to defeat Duriel, Maggot King… but since you need to farm Grigoire and Varshan to fight Duriel, you’ll end up climbing the loot ladder somewhat organically.

(1 of 2) You need four different malignant components to face the Echo of Varshan.

Echo of Varshan Loot Drop Table

A holdover from Season 1, Varshan can now be encountered as an uber boss, now dubbed the Echo of Varshan. This boss maxes out at Lv75, so you shouldn’t expect anything too spectacular from him, in terms of drops. He also requires distinct materials that drop from the same two sources - completing Grim Favors for the Tree of Whispers (this can be done during Blood Harvest events) or killing Grotesque Debtors, who randomly spawn as you complete other events (including the aforementioned Grim Favors, as well as after completing Legion Events and after defeating World Bosses). All in all, it’s a hard boss to grind for, but also you’ll get the required materials as you play. Aside from grinding out Grim Favors, there’s not a lot you can do to expedite this process.

(1 of 2) Plunder Helltide-afflicted areas to score Living Steel, which can summon Grigoire, Galvanic Saint.

Grigoire, Galvanic Saint Loot Drop Table

Like the Echo of Varshan, Grigoire, Galvanic Saint is a Lv75 boss, putting him firmly at the lower tier of gear drops. He’s somewhat easier to farm, however, as you need to brave Helltide events and look out for Tortured Gift of "Living Steel" iconLiving Steel chests. These chests aren’t visible on the main map but can be seen on the minimap when you’re close enough, assuming the massive demon with a red barrier named Grins-Wide-And-Waits doesn’t give its location away. Spend 300 "Aberrant Cinder" iconAberrant Cinders (which will itself take some farming to get) and defeat the aforementioned patiently grinning demon and you’ll score between 1-3 Living Steel (1-2 in World Tier III, 3 in World Tier IV). It costs 2x Living Steel to fight Grigoire in World Tier III and 5x in World Tier IV, so you may have to complete several Helltides to get the Living Steel you need - assuming you find the obscure Tortured Gift of Living Steel chest each time (on the plus side, you may be able to pillage two or three of these chests, if you’re lucky!). Grigoire might not have the best drop table, but in World Tier IV he’ll yield a Shard of Agony, which you need to summon Duriel, Maggot King - an uber boss with a much, much more tempting loot table.

(1 of 2) Survive Grigoire’s thunderous offense and he’ll drop some low-tier uniques, along with a Shard of Agony.

Lord Zir Loot Drop Table

You’ll initially encounter Lord Zir at the end of the Season 2 questline, but afterward you can seek him out in "The Darkened Way" iconThe Darkened Way. To summon him you’ll need 9x Exquisite Blood, which is obtained for completing Legion Events and defeating World Bosses - both activities you’re probably going to want to partake in even without the promise of fighting an uber boss. Lord Zir is Lv80, making him a step up from the Echo of Varshan and Grigoire. Still no uber uniques yet, and there’s a bit of overlap between Lord Zir and the Echo of Varshan, but there’s also some unique the Lv75 uber bosses won’t drop:

(1 of 2) Craft the Glacial Fissure Nightmare Sigil to confront the Beast in the Ice.

Craft the Glacial Fissure Nightmare Sigil to confront the Beast in the Ice. (left), The Beast in the Ice can’t drop uber uniques, and although his list of drops is better than the lower-level uber bosses, the randomness of the modifiers at play during this fight make him a proper chore. (right)

The Beast in the Ice Loot Drop Table

Whereas the Echo of Varshan’s materials drop when you open caches for completing Grim Favors, Grigoire can be summoned by exploring Helltide-afflicted areas and Lord Zir rewards you for completing Legion Events and defeating World Bosses, "The Beast in the Ice" iconThe Beast in the Ice requires you to clear Nightmare Dungeons. Specifically Tier 30+ Nightmare Dungeons, which have a chance to yield Distilled Fear when completed. You’ll have to run Nightmare Dungeons to level up your glyphs, and fighting the "Beast" iconBeast in the Ice is just a bonus tacked onto that. The Beast in the Ice is a Lv85 uber boss that can’t drop any uber uniques, but there are still some build-critical uniques in its drop list that are worth fighting it for… just max out your cold resistance and be wary of the boss’s extended sessions of invulnerable offense.

(1 of 2) Sacrifice 2x Shards of Agony and 2x Mucous-Slick Eggs at the Pestilent Altar in order to summon Duriel, Maggot King.

Sacrifice 2x Shards of Agony and 2x Mucous-Slick Eggs at the Pestilent Altar in order to summon Duriel, Maggot King. (left), Duriel, Maggot King has the highest level of all Season 2 uber bosses, and fittingly he’s the only one who can drop uber uniques. (right)

Duriel, Maggot King Loot Drop Table

Quite possibly the most tedious of the uber bosses to encounter, you’ll need to forfeit 2x Shards of Agony and 2x Mucous-Slick Eggs to summon Duriel, Maggot King, and to get these you’ll need to defeat Grigoire and the Echo of Varshan in World Tier IV, respectively. That’s four lesser uber boss fights to get one shot at Duriel, Maggot King… but as a Lv100 foe, his loot drops are worth the effort! He’s the only uber boss who can drop uber uniques, as well as an impressive list of lesser uniques. Also, anything he drops should have an Item Power of 925 - currently the highest in the game, ensuring some of the base stats items can have. Get your poison resistance maxed and get ready for some anguish - if you come out of this fight in one piece, you’ll also likely emerge a good bit richer:

Uber Unique Drop Classes
"Andariel's Visage" iconAndariel’s Visage All
"Melted Heart of Selig" iconMelted Heart of Selig All
"Harlequin Crest" iconHarlequin Crest All
"Doombringer" iconDoombringer Barbarian, Necromancer, Rogue
"The Grandfather" iconThe Grandfather Barbarian, Necromancer
"Ahavarion, Spear of Lycander" iconAhavarion, Spear of Lycander Druid, Sorcerer
