Titan is the fourth Eikon you unlock in Final Fantasy XVI. At first, you will only have access to three of Titan’s Eikonic abilities, and the last two will need to be purchased with AP. Each ability has its own uses, but choosing which ones are the best can be hard. The guide below goes over all the details about Titan’s abilities to help you decide which ones you want to use in your rotation.
Titan is the fourth Eikon that Clive fights in the story and has the power of Earth. After completing Capital Punishment you will be able to use Titan’s abilities. You should note that you can only have three Eikons equipped at once, so you will need to go to your ability screen to swap him with Garuda, Ifrit, or Ramuh. The chart below goes over all of Titan’s abilities and their upgrade costs.
Ability | Description | AP Cost | Upgrade Cost | Mastery Cost |
---|---|---|---|---|
Windup | Punch a large fist forward, for more damage hold in the Windup button to charge the attack. | – | 660 | 1000 |
Upheaval | Slams a large fist into the ground dealing AoE damage. | – | 525 | 1,000 |
Raging Fists | Attack enemies with a flurry of fists, if you block an attack the damage will be increased. | 120 | 600 | 1000 |
Titanic Block | Summons large fists in front of Clive to block an enemy attack. | – | – | 800 |
Earthen Fury | Destroys the ground in front of Clive damaging all nearby enemies. If an enemy is light, it will be knocked back and take damage multiple times. | 1,895 | 2,525 | 4,500 |
Here are the most useful Titan attacks ranked, we have left out Titanic Block as it won’t do any damage on the battlefield.
The section below features a breakdown of these abilities including what situations they are best used in.
Titan Ability Breakdown¶
Titanic Block¶
By pressing the O button you can turn Clive’s arms to rock effectively blocking any enemy attack in front of you. This gives you a bit more wiggle room than dodging does when going up against a powerful enemy, so if you have found yourself needing an extra second to pull off that perfect dodge, then Titanic Block will work well in your rotation. It can even block powerful attacks, but keep in mind that Clive’s back will be open while using this. You will also need to get some experience in doing Perfect Blocks to negate all the damage thrown your way, which takes some time to get used to.
You can master this ability for 800 AP. Depending on your battle strategy this can be one of the most useful abilities in the game. If you already have dodging down though, then this won’t be as useful for you. You do have the ability to still counterattack like when you perfectly dodge when a perfect block is accurate making the two even more on par.
Windup¶
This is a quick attack that won’t take up a lot of time. There are two variations of this attack, one quick and one a bit longer, but it delivers more damage. You can simply tap Windup to go ahead and use it, sending out a rocky fist to hit the enemy in front of you. If you want a stronger attack, then hold in the ability button. This will wind up the attack for a short period of time and then when released will deal more damage to the enemy in front of you. It’s worth mentioning that you don’t have to stay in the same spot while winding up your attack, you are still free to move around the battlefield and reposition yourself to hit the enemy that’s being the most bothersome.
This attack comes free with Titan but can be upgraded for 660 AP. By upgrading this ability, you will be able to hit within a wider range, making it easier to hit slippery enemies. For 1000 more points, you can master this ability to use it on another Eikon.
Windup can be used in many situations, making it the second-best ability on our chart. You can either go in for a quick hit or wait and power up to do more damage. This can be useful when dodging around a boss’s ability. The quicker it can help take down smaller enemies with ease, shortening small battles. Which way you want or need to use the ability can easily change just depending on which of the games many enemies or bosses you’re currently facing off against.
Upheaval¶
Upheaval is another ability that comes for free when you unlock Titan. This is an AoE attack that breaks up the earth in front of you when Clive strikes down his fists. This is an interesting ability as it can be done immediately or you can hold in the button to increase the range of ground that will be affected. Additionally, you can even activate this ability while Clive is jumping, making it easy to combo with air attacks.
You can even increase the range of attack for Upheaval by paying 525 AP points to upgrade it. For 1,000 more points, you can master it to place on other Eikons like Garuda to create a mid-air combo.
Upheaval may not be the first choice for a boss attack unless you want a bit of range, but it is great against enemy hordes. In quests where you are fighting a group of enemies, Upheaval can help to control the crowds. Of course, this won’t really work on most bosses or mini-bosses as they are too big. Upheaval is the type of ability you want to swap in during the adventuring part of missions and then swap out before a boss fight.
Raging Fists¶
For the right player, Raging Fists can be one of the best attacks in the game. The best time to use this ability is right before you are hit by an enemy. By countering their blow, the damage that Raging Fist can inflict is increased. As an added bonus, this will also make the ability cooldown shorten, allowing you to use it again much faster. The attack itself turns Clive’s fists into rocks and punches the enemies in front of you multiple times. By attacking in between this, the abilities duration can be increased even more making it deadlier and deadlier as combat goes along as you can launch three counterattacks.
You can upgrade Raging Fists for 600 AP points to deal extra damage. If you want to go the extra mile then you can pay 1,000 points to make the ability usable on any other Eikon.
This ability is best used when you’re fighting an enemy that relentlessly attacks you. This allows you to get in a powerful counter, where you would otherwise only be able to hit a single blow with a perfect dodge and do much more damage. The potential to counter up to three times, and the shorter ability cooldown, when a counter is performed, make this even more useful in fights against bosses or mini-bosses that like to take up a chunk of the battle’s time by relentlessly attacking Clive. If you need the ability to break through an onslaught of attacks then Raging Fist is a great choice.
Earthen Fury¶
This is the strongest ability in Titan’s arsenal and has a lot of potential on the battlefield. This is another move that affects the floor of the battlefield when used. It causes the ground to move upwards, sending any enemies that are standing on it to fly off. This is especially useful on smaller enemies and is a great way to gain control of the battlefield, essentially it is a much better Upheaval. The only downside is that it costs a staggering 1,895 AP to unlock.
The upgrade for Earthen Fury isn’t much better as you are looking at spending 2,525 AP to upgrade the range and amount of times the attack will hit enemies. For mastery, you are looking at paying 4,5000 AP, totaling a massive 8920 AP points.
Earthen Fury is an effective attack that can be used in boss battles and against normal enemies. The crowd control potential of this attack is huge, and it can help you quickly wipe out the field of enemies in front of you. This is the best attack for Titan despite the hefty cost and one you should work your way towards acquiring as quickly as possible.
Titan Ability Accessories¶
If you are set on using these abilities then you will want to get a hold of the accessories that power them up. Accessories can increase the power of attacks or even reduce the cooldown time. If you are planning to play in New Game +, then you can even fuse them together for more powerful results. The chart below lists every accessory you can use to power up Titan’s abilities.
