The Fatal Attraction trophy in Final Fantasy 16 can be unlocked by defeating five enemies in the air after using Deadly Embrace, which is an ability that you gain access to with the Garuda tree during the Wings of Change main quest. It may take some time for you to become familiar with all the new Eikon abilities, but Deadly Embrace is one of the easiest to get to grips with early on in the game. We’ll show you how to use it effectively so that you can get this trophy done as quickly as possible.
How to Defeat 5 Enemies in the Air with Deadly Embrace¶
The Deadly Embrace Eikon ability is unlocked early on in the main story for Final Fantasy 16. If you want to see your progress towards the Wings of Change main quest, which occurs towards the end of Chapter 1, you can see our List of All Main Quests in Final Fantasy XVI page. The Garuda Eikon ability tree is one of the first that you’ll unlock outside of your basic Phoenix abilities, so you’ll have plenty of time to practice them as you play through the story.
How to Pull Enemies Towards Clive While Airborne¶
Deadly Embrace is the default attunement ability for the Garuda Eikon tree, so you’ll have it unlocked automatically whenever you switch to it. You can use it either on the ground or from the air, and its basic use it to pull an enemy towards Clive so that you can hit it within melee range. However, if you try to pull a larger enemy this won’t work, and Clive will be pulled towards it instead. The same applies when you’re in the air: you can pull most weaker enemies up into the air if you execute the ability while airborne, but you’ll be pulled towards the ground if you try it on a larger enemy.
There’s no clear definition for what constitutes a smaller, weaker enemy when compared with a larger, tougher enemy. However, it’s often fairly obvious since you can roam the game world and find all sorts of creatures in the open fields. It goes without saying that some creatures such as Bighorns can’t be pulled into the air very easily, so don’t try using the ability on those. There are plenty of other creatures in the wilderness such as Antelopes, Hornets, Goblins, and Cray Claws, all of which are small and weak enough to be pulled into the air.
How to Weaken Enemies Before Using Deadly Embrace¶
Once you’ve found a suitable group of enemies with just Clive and Torgal in the party, you can hit them with basic melee or ranged attacks to lower their health first. You’ll need to do this because the enemy won’t remain in the air for very long after you’ve used Deadly Embrace, and you need to kill them while they’re in the air, before they return to the ground after using it. It’s possible to keep enemies in the air for an extended period if you use different airborne combos, but these can be difficult to master.
To ensure that any enemy you’re trying to bring to low health isn’t killed by Torgal, keep spamming , which is the default button bound for Torgal to heal Clive. So long as Torgal is occupied with trying to heal Clive, he won’t resort to his own passive attacks. You need to get the enemy to around 25% of their health before using Deadly Embrace, so they’ll be in a fragile state, where one stray hit could kill them.
Now that you’ve got an enemy to roughly 25% of their health, press to jump into the air. While there, before you land, execute the Deadly Embrace ability to pull the enemy towards you. If they’re small and weak enough, they will be cast into the air, close enough for you to execute some attacks there. It should only take a few melee strikes by pressing to finish off most enemies in the air once they’re at 25% HP, but if you’re having trouble try using a powerful Eikon ability instead.
It doesn’t matter how you kill the enemy once they’re in the air, only that they die before they hit the ground again. It may take a few attempts to get this right, especially if you don’t manage to keep Torgal away from the enemies properly, but there are countless enemies in the open world and they all respawn when you return to an area, so you’ll have enough to practice with. It’s important to note that you can’t earn this trophy in the Hall of Virtue, since any airborne kills you get there won’t count towards the trophy.
