The Trading Places II side quest in Final Fantasy 16 can be acquired at The Boklad Markets once you reach the Across the Narrow main quest. Here you’ll find an NPC named Theodore and he’ll tell you about their plans to purchase some Bearers. We’ll take you through the necessary steps to completion and to defeating Herensuge.
The rebuilding and restocking of Kasjlok is well underway, but what of the negotiation with the army? Theodore asks Clive to check in with his sister as to when the purchase is likely to be concluded.
How to Start the Trading Places II Side Quest in Final Fantasy 16¶
First things first, you’ll need to have completed the main story mission Through the Maelstrom and be on Across the Narrow, then you’ll need to complete the side quest Trading Places. When those requirements have been met, head over to Theodore who can be found in The Boklad Markets which is located in The Dhalmekian Republic. Speak with him and he’ll ask you do him a favour and ask Eloise when the Bearers are due to arrive.
Once you’ve finished speaking with Theodore, head over to The Crimson Caravans and talk to Eloise, then you’ll discover the negotiations with the army have fallen through as someone has outbidded her, so she is traveling to Ran’dellah to figure out what’s going on. However, if things go sideways then she’ll need someone to defend her and that’s where you come in, so hop onto Ambrosia and head to the southernmost portion of The Steps of the Forgotten sub-region.
How to Defeat Herensuge¶
When you arrive a meeting with the Consortium will take place, then you’ll discover they were the first to put a bid in for the Bearers and somebody has already purchased them from the Consortium, so all of Eloise’s plans have unfortunately failed. Whilst speaking with Eloise you’ll find out that the Kasjlok village is under attack and they require Clive’s help. Fast travel to the Laetny’s Cleft Obelisk and head south until you reach the Abandoned Fishing Village.
Here you’ll want to follow the Cerdra’s Thread path along until you reach a dead end, then you’ll face multiple Akasic Hounds, Akasic Leg Eaters, so group them and use your AoE Abilities, such as Diamond Dust, Aerial Blast or Earthen Fury to take them down quickly. Immediately after clearing out the group of enemies Herensuge will spawn. This is an elite dragon, so you’ll want to use Dancing Steel to increase your Zantetsuken Gauge to level 5, then you’ll want to work on staggering it as quickly as possible which shouldn’t be much of a challenge with Diamond Dust.
Once you’ve staggered it you’ll want to place down Lightning Rod in front of it and activate your Limit Break, then quickly use Zantetsuken along with Gigaflare which will deal 100k+ damage. Below you will find a rundown of all the attacks that Herensuge can use and how you can avoid them:
- Fireball - Herensuge will shoot out large fireballs out of its mouth, so as long as you aren’t standing too close, then you can easily dodge out of the way. However, it’ll shoot multiple balls in quick succession, so you’ll want to keep pressing the dodge button until it stops.
- Wing Slam - If you’re standing far away, then Herensuge will slam its wing down directly where you’re standing, so be sure to dodge before it reaches the ground.
- Dive Bomb - Herensuge will fly up into the sky and dive straight down into where you’re standing, so wait until it gets close to you before dodging. Sometimes it’ll perform the Dive Domb immediately after Fireball, so you’ll want to continuously mash the dodge button.
- Fire Beam - Herensuge will shoot out a large beam across the battlefield which will explode, so keep your distance until it disappears.
After you’ve dealt with the dragon a scene will play out, then the quest will come to a close and you’ll be rewarded with the Crimson Caravans Signboard Curiosity and The Breath of Fire (Scarlet Cyclone) Accessory. This reduces the cooldown time for Scarlet Cyclone by 3.3 seconds.
