Titan is a major boss fight in the game, with it taking place at the end of the Into the Darkness main quest. This is a pretty long fight and takes place over three phases, with all of them being fairly involved and different. This page will focus on the first phase of the fight with Titan, where you will be controlling Ifrit during it.
How to Beat Titan in Final Fantasy 16¶
The first battle with Titan is Eikon to Eikon, with you controlling Ifrit. You have a good amount of mobility in this fight, so don’t forget that, especially if you hold down the button in conjunction with a direction on the analog stick. You shouldn’t need to use that too much here, though, but it’s always good to keep it in the back of your mind, in case of emergencies. There will be a few Cinematic actions during the battle, too, so keep an eye out for those.
All Titan Attacks in Final Fantasy XVI¶
The Titan fight is split up into three different battles, with the first one having two different phases. He only seems to introduce like three new moves in the second phase, with him using all the other moves from the first phase, too.
Geocrush¶
Titan will start with this attack, where he’ll run at you, then jump and crash into the ground, causing a bunch of rocks to come out of the ground around him. Note that he will slightly home in on your location while running, so keep this in mind when you’re moving away from him. The best way to avoid this is to press hold down in a direction away from Titan.
Jumping Fist Smash¶
Titan will just jump forward and punch the ground. This attack is slow enough that you should be able to easily avoid it. As always, the majority of his attacks have a bit of extra area of effect, due to the rocks that get kicked up from the impact.
Double Stomp¶
If you’re up close enough, Titan can lift up his leg to stomp the ground, then follow it up with the other leg. Just remember that this comes in twos, so just because you dodge the first one, get ready to dodge the second one.
Voice of the Land¶
Titan will let out a roar, temporarily stunning you, which will also cause blue spots on the ground. From these blue spots, crystals will emerge from the ground, which you have to dodge. The placement of these spots/crystals is random, too, so they’re never in the same spots. This attack can be a little hard to dodge sometimes, since you are stunned as it’s being executed, but as long as you spam the evade button, you should be fine.
Kick Stomp Combo¶
If you’re up close, Titan will bring his one leg back and kick the ground in front of him, then follow up by stomping the ground with that same leg, on its way back down. Dodge the kick hit first, then stay back until he does the stomp.
Rock Toss¶
Titan will drag his hand on the ground, flinging them towards you and kicking up a rock, sending it in your direction. He will do this with each hand, so there will be two separate rocks you have to dodge, which aren’t really all too hard to avoid.
Arm Sweep¶
Titan will sweep his arm along the ground, causing rocks to come out wherever he made contact. He seems to do this more often if you’re to his side or behind him, but even then, you might see it when you’re in front of him. It’s not too difficult to avoid, though, either way. Keep in mind that there’s a backhand version, as well as a fronthand version of this attack.
Running Tackle¶
Titan will likely start the second phase of this fight by running towards you, then pretty much plowing along the ground, in an attempt to kind of tackle you. It’s not very hard to dodge, since you have some great mobility as Ifrit.
Earthshaker¶
This attack tends to follow other ones, with Titan slamming the ground and producing two shockwaves in a straight line, in a V-shape. The shockwaves are accompanied by rocks protruding from the ground, too. If you’re up close, it’s probably better to try and dodge to the sides of Titan, but if you’re far enough away, you could potentially just stay in the middle.
Stripmine¶
Titan will dig both hands into the ground, then pull them up, unearthing a lot of debris. This attack doesn’t seem to be all too common, and you can easily dodge it by going to either side, if you wanted.
Strategy for the Titan Boss in FFXVI¶
As you’d expect, you’ll be controlling Ifrit in this epic battle against Titan, with your full movement abilities carrying over from the Typhon fight earlier in the game. Despite his size, Titan is actually fairly mobile, so don’t be surprised by his movements. The first phase of this battle is pretty standard, with not much standing out. The unnamed attacks are slow enough that you shouldn’t have trouble dodging them at all, as long as you keep in mind that the Double Stomp is two attacks. Geocrush is extremely easy to avoid, since there’s a large wind-up before the actual attack happens.
Voice of the Land, however, can be annoying, due to the semi-randomly placed spots on the ground where the rocks appear, as well as you being stunned by the roar. After staggering Titan for the first time, he will go to the far end of the room and start throwing boulders at you, which are super easy to dodge. He will then power up, which causes your character to power up and learn the Brimstone attack. This is a special move, like the Eikon abilities you use as Clive, with it being assigned to + .
You will need to hold down both buttons, should you want to charge up Brimstone, which will cause a circular bar to appear. There will be two orange spots on this bar, sweet spots, if you will, which will cause Precision Brimstone to pop up on the right hand of the screen, making the attack more powerful. You can press X at any time to cancel the charge, without triggering the explosion, and Ifrit is invulnerable to damage while charging it, but if you get hit, the explosion will trigger. So, with that little explanation out of the way, you will want to be charging Brimstone right now, as Titan has tossed a large mountain-sized boulder (Stone’s Throw) in your direction. Let it hit you while you’re charging Brimstone to avoid taking damage.
Titan will leap back into the fray after this, where he’ll add some new moves to his arsenal. The Running Tackle will likely be his first move, where he just charges straight at you. He will also start using Rock Toss (he may use this sparingly in the first portion), which has him tossing one rock in your direction, then another with the other hand. The worst of the three new moves, though, is Earthshaker, as he produces two shockwaves in a V-like pattern. If you’re up close, this might hit you, but you have the option to dodge to the sides to avoid it. If you happen to be further away, though, you could just stay in the middle of the two shockwaves to remain unscathed.
He will still use all of the other moves from the first portion of the fight, so you still need to worry about those. Thankfully, you have added damage should you stagger him, in Brimstone, so don’t forget about using that. It can also be used as a defensive maneuver, should you feel like you might be hit by an attack.
Upon Titan reaching very low life, a cutscene will take place, where you have a Cinematic Evasion, as well as a Cinematic Clash. Enjoy the cutscenes following that, which will bring you to the Titan Lost boss battle.
