As you approach the last third of Final Fantasy 16, you’ll reach the Out of the Shadow main story quest in Final Fantasy 16 which will unlock a few side quests with one of them being Weird Science. Accepting this quest will open up the Bomb King Hunt. Read below to find out the exact location of Bomb King where you’ll find the Notorious Marks location as well as an in-depth strategy on how to defeat it.
Where is the Bomb King Mark Location?¶
Location | Level | Bounty |
---|---|---|
The Crock, Sanbreque | 33 | 9,000 Gil, 20 Renown |
As stated above, the first thing you’ll need to do is unlock the Weird Science quest. Once you have the quest, head over to the Hunt Board, and you’ll see Bomb King on there. Its location is The Crock which you may have not discovered just yet.
Teleport to the Dragon’s Aery obelisk and head towards the southeast exit. Just before the exit is another exit leading south. This is called the Imperial Chase, and you want to continue heading south until you reach a crossroad. Take the northern path, and you’ll eventually be in The Crock where you’ll find the Bomb King.
Bomb King’s Attacks¶
Below you’ll find all the attacks that the Bomb King has in its arsenal:
Attack | Description | Counter |
---|---|---|
Coronation | The Bomb King’s favorite attack. It’ll spit out a large fireball at you which leaves a persistent fire on the floor. | Wait for the fireball to land on you, and dodge forward to gain a Precision Dodge which gives you a powerful counter. Punish the Bomb King for its insolence! |
Flame Breath | The Bomb King will breathe a flame in front of itself as a small cone. | Simply step to either side of the flame, or wait for the flame to reach you then Precision Dodge to its side. |
Witan | Bomb King will rise into the air creating an orange circle underneath it before crashing down. | Stay out of the orange circle to avoid the attack. If you wait in it until it crashes down, you can perform a Precision Dodge. This is normally followed up with King’s Justice. |
King’s Justice | The Bomb King will summon minions alongside it. | This can be from two to six bombs, some of which are purple while the others are orange. These will fire projectiles at you for a short while before exploding on you. They have low health, but it’s not worth fighting them unless Flames of Rebirth is up. Simply stay away from them until they explode. The purple bombs will cause more damage. |
Violet Flames | Bomb King will spit out a few violet flames which will hover around the arena for a brief period before creating a small explosion. These same flames will disperse from the smaller bombs that the King’s Justice attack provides upon detonation. | Ignore this attack for the most part, touching them appears to do nothing, and the small explosion only does a bit of chip damage. Obviously stay away from them if you can, but don’t allow them to alter your path into more dangerous attacks. |
Recommended Abilities for the Bomb King¶
Here we will list our recommended ability set up to do this effectively:
Eikon | Ability | Damage Type |
---|---|---|
Phoenix | Flames of Rebirth | Damage (3 Star), Will (3 Stars) |
Phoenix | Heatwave | Damage and Will (2 Stars) |
Garuda | Rook’s Gambit | Damage (2 Stars), Will (5 Stars) |
Ramuh | Lightning Rod | Damage (2 Stars), Will (3 Stars) - Master this and place it as the second Garuda ability. |
Titan | Upheaval | Damage (4 Stars), Will (3 Stars) |
Titan | Raging Fists | Damage (3 Star), Will (3 Stars) |
Here’s the reasoning behind the above abilities. Bomb King can spawn minions which can detonate for major damage. Although you can easily avoid them, Flames of Rebirth will outright kill them all, or leave one or two with minimal health, and if it doesn’t, Upheaval will finish them off. Heatwave is taken because the Bomb King has a lot of projectiles and Heatwave can dispel a lot of them. Rook’s Gambit is taken to counter Coronation as the attack is slow, and it’s easy to counter with the ability which will give you extra damage.
Finally, Upheaval is brought along for the same reason as Flames of Rebirth, the area-of-effect damage for the minions. Finally, Lightning Rod is for extra damage when fighting the Bomb King, place it near the mark, and use Raging Fists to trigger a lot of damage.
Recommended Items and Equipment for the Bomb King¶
Gear¶
For your Weapon, Belt, and Vambraces, you should have the following:
Weapon | Belt | Vambraces |
---|---|---|
Enhancer +2 | Drakeslayer’s Belt | Drakeslayer’s Bracelet |
If you don’t have what’s listed above, use the highest Attack for Weapon, and highest Defense and Health for the Belt and Vambraces.
Accessories¶
For your Accessories, this is more subjective, so here is what we used:
Accessory 1 | Accessory 2 | Accessory 3 |
---|---|---|
The Breath of Fire (Flames of Rebirth) - (Flames of Rebirth) cooldown reduced by 12 seconds | Berserker Ring - Increase attack proficiency with each Precision Dodge | The Heat of Fire (Heatwave) - Increase Heatwave damage by 9% |
Items¶
Finally, we have items. This is more of a preference thing, but we chose the following items:
Shortcut 1 | Shortcut 2 | Shortcut 3 |
---|---|---|
Potion | High Potion | Elixir |
Take the usual Potions and High Potions, and for the third slot, take the Strength Tonic. The Bomb King is weak, so the extra damage will end the battle quicker.
The Bomb King Boss Strategy¶
This battle is relatively easy. The Bomb King has no Will-Gauge, and all of its attacks are slow and easy to avoid. In fact, the only real threat is its minions that appear from the King’s Justice attack due to them detonating on you for major damage. Fortunately, there are numerous ways to deal with this threat. This strategy will be different from the other guides, and we will give you some tips, and a priority list instead.
-
Use Flames of Rebirth and/or Upheaval for the minions during the King’s Justice attack. This should outright defeat them all. If the skills are on cooldown, stay away until they explode.
-
Use Rook’s Gambit and Precision Dodge for the Coronation attack as it’s slow and easy to exploit. Make sure you counter after the dodge.
-
Regularly use Charged Magic at the Bomb King as this has a high chance of knocking it to the ground, interrupting it. Follow this up with a Torgal Sic/Ravage and then use a Lunge attack of your own to close the distance and start a combo. This can also be followed up with a Mortal Strike (downed attack)
-
Use Strength Tonics and Limit Breaks to maximize your damage throughout the fight.
-
Use Heatwave to dispel the many projectiles left behind by the boss/minions.
-
Keep Lightning Rod up at all times next to the boss for extra damage.
-
Regularly use the Attack > Magic (Magic Burst) combos and follow the last hit with Torgal.
As stated above, this battle is easy, and really should be classed as a C-Rank, even Ahriman was tougher. When the Bomb King’s health gets low, it will use more Coronations per attack, and summon minions more often. This still doesn’t make it difficult, just less boring. Once you’ve defeated the Bomb King, you’ll get 9,000 Gil, 1,000 XP, and 20 Renown. Make sure to pick up the three Bomb Ash for the Weird Science quest.
