The With Two Ds trophy in Final Fantasy 16 can be unlocked by upgrading consumable potency and inventory slots to their maximum. To do this, you need to complete four side quests which can be acquired from Nigel and Owain at The Hideaway. These quests are The Root of the Problem, Weird Science, Even Weirder Science, and Please Sir, Can I Have Some Morbol. We’ll tell you when you get access to these quests and provide links to guides for how to complete them on this page.
How to Get the Potion Capacity and Potency Upgrades in FFXVI¶
There are two types of Potion upgrades that you can obtain from side quests in Final Fantasy 16. These relate to the potency of potions in the form of the Phial of Morganbeard Extract and the Phial of Invigorated Morganbeard Extract, and the inventory capacity for Clive to carry more potions, which come in the form of the Treated Potion Satchel and the Expanded Potion Satchel. You need to complete particular side quests to obtain all four of these, but the side quests will only become available once you’ve reached specific points in the main story.
The table below details the relevant side quests, the NPC you can get them from, which type of reward they provide, and which main quest you need to reach before you can start them.
Side Quest | NPC | Reward | Main Quest |
---|---|---|---|
The Root of the Problem | Nigel | Phial of Morganbeard Extract | After the Storm |
Weird Science | Owain | Treated Potion Satchel | Like Father, Like Daughter |
Please Sir, Can I Have Some Morbol | Nigel | Phial of Invigorated Morganbeard Extract | A Song of Hope |
Even Weirder Science | Owain | Expanded Potion Satchel | Across the Narrow |
Speak with Nigel and Owain at The Hideaway to Upgrade Potions in FFXVI¶
The links provided in the table above will take you to detailed guides for each of the quests that you need to complete for the potion upgrades. All of these side quests can be started at The Hideaway, but only after you’ve reached the relevant main quest. Keep in mind that you may need to complete some of the subquest objectives for each of the main quests mentioned in the table above, before you can gain access to the side quest. You’ll note that the quests associated with Potion potency are acquired from Nigel, while those which upgrade Potion capacity are acquired from Owain.
How Do the Morganbeard Extract and Potion Satchels Work?¶
You may be wondering how you can benefit from obtaining the potion upgrades mentioned above. Aside from unlocking the With Two Ds trophy, the Morganbeard Extract upgrades will increase the amount of HP restored when using regular Potions and High Potions. In addition, they will extend the duration of the Strength Tonic, Stoneskin Tonic, and Lionheart Tonic. The Potion Satchels, on the other hand, will increase the amount of each potion that you can carry. We’ve provided a breakdown for exactly how many more potions you can carry after completing each relevant quest below.
After completing the Weird Science side quest, Clive’s potion capacity will increase by the following amounts:
- Potions: 4 > 6
- High Potions: 3 > 4
- Strength Tonic: 2 > 3
- Stoneskin Tonic: 2 > 3
After completing the Even Weirder Science side quest, the potion capacity limits will increase to the following:
- Potions: 6 > 8
- High Potions: 4 > 5
- Strength Tonic: 3 > 4
- Stoneskin Tonic: 3 > 4
Note that all special potions such as Lionheart Tonics, Elixir, and Last Elixir are locked to just one permitted in your inventory at any given time. You only need to upgrade the potion capacities mentioned above to unlock the With Two Ds trophy, but most of the potions that you can acquire will have their potency increased when you complete Nigel’s quests.
