FF16 - Please Sir, Can I Have Some Morbol Side Quest

By
Scott Peers

The Please Sir, Can I Have Some Morbol side quest in Final Fantasy 16 can be acquired once you reach the A Song of Hope main quest. You need to speak with "Nigel" iconNigel, the head botanist at "The Hideaway" iconThe Hideaway to start it. He’ll ask you to use the Hunt Board to locate what he describes as an extraordinary Morbol, which is referred to as “Carrot” on the board. You need to defeat this Morbol then return to Nigel with its tendrils.

Speak with !Nigel, the Head Botanist at !The Hideaway, to begin this quest.

How to Start the Please Sir, Can I Have Some Morbol Side Quest in FF16

As mentioned above, before you can start this quest you need to reach the A Song of Hope main quest first. You should then see the green icon hovering over Nigel at The Hideaway, indicating that he has a quest available. After speaking with him, you’ll learn that he wants to use some of the Morbol’s innards to stimulate some of the flowers at The Hideaway to bloom. That’s where Clive comes in, as someone capable of slaying a Morbol…

Check the Hunt Board for the Extraordinary Morbol (aka Carrot)

The extraordinary Morbol that Nigel tells you about is referred to as “Carrot” on the Hunt Board, because why not? It has the following description:

“If you should come across a red carrot protruding from the marshes of "Three Reeds" iconThree Reeds, do not attempt to pull it from the swampy soil. It is, in truth, another root vegetable entirely - an exotic species of Morbol that uses a modified, carrot-like vine as a lure to draw its prey close, before emerging from the earth and swallowing them whole. A cruel way for Nature to turn these times of privation to her advantage.”

Where to Find the Carrot Hunt (aka Notorious Mark)

So, it turns out that there’s some reasoning behind the “Carrot” naming convention. What’s more, the above description gives us a clue as to where we can find this extraordinary Morbol: in the marshes of the Three Reeds. This area is located just north of The Hideaway, and you can fast travel there from the main map. Once there, open the local map to see The Whispering Waters area, marked just northwest of the Three Reeds obelisk where you spawn into the area. You need to make your way here to find the Carrot Morbol.

How to Defeat the Carrot Morbol at the Whispering Waters in FFXVI

Now that you know where to find the Carrot Morbol, you’ll need to fight it just like you would with any other Hunt / Notorious Mark. As a Rank B Hunt it isn’t among the most difficult, and it shares many of the same attacks with other "Morbols" iconMorbols that you’ve fought up to this point. The most important things to remember are to stay away from the black cloud (aka Worse Breath attack) that it emits, as this can damage you significantly. You should also be careful to avoid the black goop clusters (aka Acid Rain) that it spurts on the ground, as these will slow you down and apply damage over time if you stay in them for too long.

Aside from these two main attacks, you’ll have to contend with the tendrils emitting from the ground, which you can dodge if you’re quick enough, or just run away from them if you keep moving. The Morbol will also sometimes disappear entirely and then emerge directly beneath you, inflicting damage if you don’t move in time. This attack is referred to as Burrow, for obvious reasons, but it can be easily avoided just by running in one direction. The trick is not to run into any of the Acid Rain clusters in the process!

If you want to see a more detailed strategy guide for this fight, check our Carrot Morbol Location and How to Beat in FF16 page. You’ll earn 2300 level XP, 70 ability points, 10000 "Gil" iconGil, and 20 Renown for defeating the Morbol. You’ll also receive the Morbol Tendril key item which is essential for the quest, and a Morbol Flower which can be used in crafting.

(1 of 2) The Worse Breath attack is the most damaging that the Carrot Morbol can inflict, so be ready to avoid it!

Deliver the Morbol Tendrils to Nigel at The Hideaway

Once you’ve defeated the Carrot Morbol, you can return to The Hideaway and give the Morbol Tendrils to Nigel. He’ll thank you for the help and you’ll receive 1380 level XP, 45 Renown, and a "Goblin Coin" iconGoblin Coin as a reward. You’ll also get the "Invigorated Morganbeard Extract" iconInvigorated Morganbeard Extract curiosity, which increases the potency of your consumable items.
