The A Bone to Pick side quest in Final Fantasy 16 can be acquired once you reach the Out of the Shadows main quest. To start it, you need to interact with the Reading Table in Clive’s living quarters at The Hideaway. It will be listed as a message from Charon (aka Nan) under the heading of “A Bad Feeling…”, which relates to Torgal losing his appetite. We’ll show you where to find elder antelope to complete this quest after speaking with Charon.
How to Start A Bone to Pick (“A Bad Feeling…”) Side Quest in FFXVI¶
Once you’ve reached the Out of the Shadows main quest in Final Fantasy XVI, you can visit the Reading Table in Clive’s living quarters to accept a note from Charon under the heading “A Bad Feeling…”, then accept her summons before speaking with her at the shop in The Hideaway. She’ll greet you with her usual droll sarcasm before telling you that Torgal hasn’t been eating his treats as he usually does, which for a hound his size is a bit concerning.
Speak with Harpocrates at The Hideaway¶
There isn’t any obvious reason that Charon or Clive can think of as to why Torgal might have lost his appetite, so they agree that consulting Harpocrates is the best option. You’ll find him in his study just up the steps to the east of Charon’s Toll shop. After informing him about the situation, Harpocrates determines that Torgal might need something with a bit more sustenance than what Nan’s treats have offered so far, especially now that he’s discovered new forms of Magick that he can channel in combat.
Where to Find Elder Antelope Near Cressida in FFXVI¶
Harpocrates suggests that you go hunting for an elder antelope in the meadows of eastern Rosaria, near the village of Cressida. You can easily reach this area by fast traveling to Martha’s Rest, in the northwest part of the main map. Once there, look to the northeast to find Cressida on the map, and the path to it through the Greensheaves to the north. Take this path through the marshes until you reach Cressida, then look around in the fields for the elder antelope.
You will likely find a bunch of the elder antelope together here, and you’ll need to kill them all before the quest log will update. They aren’t the toughest of beasts so you shouldn’t have any trouble here. A cutscene will play once you’ve killed them all, during which Clive offers Torgal a bone, and he soon perks up.
Now that you’ve cured Torgal of his hunger, you can return to Harpocrates at The Hideaway to complete the quest. You’ll earn 575 Level XP, 800 Gil, and 20 Renown for doing so, alongside a Cavall’s Fang accessory which slightly increases Torgal’s attack potency, and a Sharp Fang crafting item.
Don’t Forget to Speak with Charon!¶
Before you do anything else, it’s worth speaking to Charon again at her shop for another cutscene related to this quest. You’ll be locked out of this scene if you leave it too late, so don’t advance anything else if you value her conversations!
