The Not to Be Outdone side in Final Fantasy 16 can be acquired in The Hideaway once you reach the Things Fall Apart main quest. Gere you’ll find a person named Molly who needs your helping find ingredients for an ancient recipe. We’ll take you through the necessary steps to completion and where to find the Drakesmint and Skyworms.
Molly, cauldron keeper at the Fat Chocobo, seeks to recreate an ancient recipe for “fried mortress of skyworm”. Unfortunately, she’s not exactly sure what several of the ingredients are - namely drakesmint and skyworm.
How to Start the Not to Be Outdone Side Quest in Final Fantasy 16¶
First things first, you’ll need to have completed the main story mission Fire in the Sky, and be on Things Fall Apart. When those requirements have been met, head over to Molly who can be found in The Ale Hall area of the Hideaway. Speak with her and you’ll learn that she is trying to cook a recipe from the Valisthea - A Culinary Pilgrimage Book after seeing how well Yvan’s stew performed.
Where to Find Drakesmint and Skyworms¶
Once you’ve finished speaking with Molly, head into The Shelves and talk to Harpocrates to see if he knows where you can find drakesmint and skyworm. Here you’ll discover that Skyworms can be obtained by defeating Blueback Wyvern’s and Drakesmint can be found by collecting Saint’s Bonnet, so you’ll want to fast travel over to Northreach which is located in The Holy Empire of Sanbreque Region.
How to Defeat the Blueback Wyvern in Final Fantasy 16¶
Upon arrival you’ll want to follow the path along to the north until you reach the Royal Meadows sub-region, then you’ll find the Blueback Wyvern sitting out in the open. This is an elite enemy, so it’ll require a proper strategy to take down successfully. To begin, you’ll want to keep using Magic Bursts to bring its stagger bar down to the halfway point, then you’ll want to use Garuda’s Deadly Embrace to bring it down before unleashing Gouge to stagger it. You’ll now want to place Lightning Rod down in front of it and activate your Limit Break to deal as much damage as possible before the stagger phase is up.
It should take you two full staggers to take it down. However, whilst you’re chipping away at its health it’ll use some attacks which can be punishing if you get hit, so below we’ll run through its main attacks and how to best avoid them:
- Fireball - Throughout the battle the Blueback Wyvern will shoot out single fireballs from its mouth. This is easily avoidable by keeping your distance and dodging to the side.
- Claw Swipe - You’ll notice the Blueback Wyvern lunge forward and attempt to swipe you with its arm. Like the Fireball, you can dodge to the side to avoid it. However, if you’re standing too close this will be a little trickier, so try not to get too greedy with your attacks.
Once you’ve defeated the Blueback Wyvern, head north until you reach the Baywatch Area and pick up the Saint’s Bonnet before returning to the Hideaway. Give the ingredients to Molly and the quest will come to a close and you’ll be rewarded with Bloody Hides x75 and Sharp Fangs x25. All of these items are extremely useful for crafting.
