The Phoenix, Heal Thyself side quest in Final Fantasy 16 can be acquired in The Hideaway once you reach the Across the Narrow main quest. Here you’ll find a person named Jote and they need your help getting the ingredients for Joshua’s medicine. We’ll take you through the necessary steps to completion and to finding the Stoneawort.
Jote confesses her concerns that the medicine Joshua uses to soothe his pain is in short supply.
How to Start the Phoenix, Heal Thyself Side Quest in Final Fantasy 16¶
First things first, you’ll need to have completed the main story mission Through the Maelstrom, and be on Across the Narrow. When those requirements have been met, head over to Jote who can be found in The Infirmary area of the Hideaway. Speak with her and you’ll learn that they are nearly out of the medicine Joshua’s uses and she can’t collect anymore due to the aether that’s taken over the area, so she has requested that you try and get some as the aether cannot affect you due to you being a dominant.
Where to Find Stoneawort¶
Once you’ve finished speaking with Jote, fast travel over to the Three Reeds Obelisk and then head west until you reach The Trans-Rosarian Aqueduct Area. Here you’ll need to take down three Akashic Weavers and an Akashic Gigas. To begin, you’ll want to focus on the Weavers as they are regular enemies so simply group them and unleash Diamond Dust to potentially one shot them. If not, then throw in a quick Heatwave to finish them off.
How to Defeat the Akashic Gigas¶
When you move onto the Akashic Gigas you’ll notice that its an elite enemy, so you’ll want to work on staggering it a quick as possible, so you’ll want to use Diamond Dust to bring it down to half stagger, then use Deadly Embrace to pull it down then follow it up with Gouge. Once you’ve staggered it, place down Lightning Rod directly in front of it before activating your Limit Break and unleashing Gigaflare. This should one shot it, but if it’s only got a little bit of health left, then some Magic Bursts should finish it off. As this is an elite enemy you’ll need to watch out for the following attacks:
- Ground Slam - If you’re standing in front of the Akashic Gigas, then it’ll raise its weapon above its head and slam it down onto the ground directly in front of it. However, you’ll have a second or two before it slams its weapon down, so you should be able to easily dodge out of the way.
- Swing - This is one of the more common attacks the Akashic Gigas will perform and all it is a simple swing of its weapons. As long as you aren’t standing too close, you should easily avoid this.
- Big Swing - Throughout the battle the Akashic Gigas will perform Big Swing which involves it spinning in circles multiple times, so just keep far away until it stops.
- Charge - The last attack you’ll need to watch out for is a simple charge. If you’re standing at a distance for too long, then it’ll charge towards you and perform a downwards swing.
After you’ve finished clearing out the enemies, pick up the three nearby Petals, then return to the Hideaway and give them to Jote to bring the quest to a close. Here you’ll be rewarded with a Meteorite x1 and Magicked Ash x150.
