During the main quest Things Fall Apart you’ll be given three objectives, which branch out into three subquests. Down the Rabbit Hole is one of these three subquests, which will begin when you pursue the objective Aid !Dalimil in its dilemma. This page will provide a walkthrough for the main subquest Down the Rabbit Hole in Final Fantasy XVI, including details on how to defeat the desert bandits and their leader, The Sultan.
How to Start Down the Rabbit Hole - FF16 Down the Rabbit Hole Main Quest Walkthrough¶
Like the other subquests in Things Fall Apart, you’ll need to talk to Otto twice in The Hideaway to unlock three objectives. Once done, travel to The Dalimil Inn and talk to L’ubor, who can be found in his customary spot near The Briar’s Kiss. After your chat ends, this quest will begin.

How to Convince Konrad and Natalie - FF16 Down the Rabbit Hole Main Quest Walkthrough¶
This quest begins with quite a bit of chatter. Complete the following busywork to progress the quest:
- Enter The Final Sting to the south to trigger a scene.
- After the scene, talk to Viktor inside the inn.
- Return to L’ubor and talk to him again.
- Head to the northeastern gate and talk to Viktor to convince Konrad.
- Travel to The Baths and talk to L’ubor to convince Natalie.
- Return to The Briar’s Kiss and talk to Viktor yet again.
After this prolonged bout of chatty busywork you’ll finally get a more interesting task - bandits are attacking The North Gate, and you’ll be called upon to repel them.
How to Defeat The Sultan Miniboss - FF16 Down the Rabbit Hole Main Quest Walkthrough¶
Exit via the nearby gate and venture north a short distance to encounter a gang of Desert Bandits. Despite their taunts, these bandits are no match for you - a single Ignition should wipe most of them out, or at least grievously injure them. After they’re dispatched, a second squad will arrive. Don’t be fooled by their generic names, their armaments and capabilities vary, and some will even buff their fellows with Protect. Chew through the first two waves and a third wave will arrive, led by The Sultan.
The Sultan is essentially the same as the old Midnight Raven boss, an archetype long since relegated to miniboss status. Despite the minor prestige of serving as the target of this subquest, he won’t offer up anything you haven’t seen before. Block his normal attacks with Titanic Block (be wary of combos, which may interrupt any attempted Titanic Counters) and dodge his Poison Breath attack (if you get to his flank/rear while he performs this attack, you can punish him) and when his Will Gauge is half empty, go for the Stagger by hitting him with Deadly Embrace and Gouge. Yeah, it’s the standard boss formula, but we’ll stop using it when it stops working.
Put this ne’er-do-well down and you’ll return automatically to Dalimil, whereupon this quest will end. You’ll be rewarded with 50x Sharp Fangs, 50x Steelsilk and 50x Bloody Hides for your efforts.
