There are several hunts in Final Fantasy 16 and each one provides a unique challenge. There are several parts of the main story where you will unlock a landslide of new Notorious Marks. One of the later ones you get is called The Pack and takes you to an area that you don’t visit during the main story of the game. The guide below goes over where to find The Pack, the hunt’s rewards, and how to easily defeat them in Final Fantasy 16.
Where to Find the Notorious Mark, The Pack¶
Location | Level | Bounty |
---|---|---|
The Gilded Path, Dhalmekia | 33 | 5,800 Gil, 10 Renown |
The Pack is a hunt that becomes available once you make it to the main story quest, Things Fall Apart. This is closer to the end of the game, so you have a ways to go in the main story before it will unlock. Once you reach this quest, check out the Hunt Board, The Pack, as well as many other hunts that will unlock. On the board, you will be given a slight bit of information about the hunt and the area they can be found in.
To find The Pack, you will want to travel to the Tabor Obelisk. From there, head through the market and out of town where you will then want to take a right and enter the Gilded Path area. Once you look at your map, there will be a small offshoot of land on your left shortly after entering the area; go there and you should see a pack of Wolves. When you get close, the hunt will start.
If you don’t see this location on your map at first, don’t panic. The area that the hunt is located in isn’t visited during the main story. In fact, unless you are doing hunts or the side quest pertaining to Blackthorne’s family you likely won’t have this part of the map filled in.
The Pack’s Attacks¶
The chart below goes over the attacks that The Pack can perform in battle, and what their best counters are.
Attack | Description | Counter |
---|---|---|
Lunge | The Wolves will leap a small distance to attack you. | Dodge as they are at the midpoint of their leap. |
Thrill of the Hunt | The pack will attack you with a fierce bite all at once. | You will need to Dodge each bite - if this seems hard use Titanic Block. |
Due to the small attack pool, this is an easy hunt to complete. Just make sure you keep up with dodging as the Wolves lunge and you will come out with little to no damage.
Recommended Abilities for The Pack¶
Below are our choices for attacks that will be the most effective when fighting The Pack.
Eikon | Ability | Damage Type |
---|---|---|
Garuda | Wicked Wheel | Damage (2 Stars), Will (3 Stars) |
Titan | Upheaval | Damage (3 Stars), Will (3 Stars) |
Phoenix | Scarlet Cyclone | Damage (2 Stars), Will (3 Stars) |
Garuda | Deadly Embrace | – |
Your main focus is using AoE abilities that can damage multiple enemies at once. Alternatively, you can take on each of the five members of the pack one by one. In that case, you will want to use Deadly Embrace to separate them. If you have late abilities from Eikons like Shiva or Odin, then their AoE attacks will make this fight even easier.
Recommended Items and Equipment for The Pack¶
Gear¶
Weapon | Belt | Vambraces |
---|---|---|
Enhancer | Drakeslayer’s Belt | Drakeslayer’s Bracelets |
This is our safe pick for the hunts that pop up around this point in the game. if you have stronger equipment available then feel free to use them.
Accessories¶
Accessory 1 | Accessory 2 | Accessory 3 |
---|---|---|
Enhancer | The Favor of Fire (Scarlet Cyclone) | The Favor of Wind (Wicked Wheel) |
Having accessories that enhance the attack power of your AoE attack is best for this fight.
Items¶
Shortcut 1 | Shortcut 2 | Shortcut 3 |
---|---|---|
Potion | High Potion | Stoneskin Tonic |
You likely won’t find yourself taking a ton of damage during this fight. With that being said, it’s always good to have both types of healing items on hand. Stoneskin Tonic is always great to have as well, as it will increase your defense.
The Pack Boss Strategy in Final Fantasy XVI¶
The Pack is one of the easiest hunts in the game as they don’t have many ways to attack you. They can lunge at Clive and have one attack called Thrill of The Hunt where the Wolves all attack Clive one after another before surrounding him. This is easy to Dodge; simply move right as each member is about to attack. Since there are five members of the pack, the big health bar that you normally would deal with when facing a notorious enemy is separated into five different ones for each wolf.
You can fight each member of the group separately or take them on all at once. At the start of the fight, they will be grouped together so it’s best to run in and use a move like Scarlet Cyclone to damage them all at once. If you would prefer to pick them off one by one, then use Deadly Embrace to separate the members and then unleash your combo on them. It should only take a few seconds of focusing on a single member to take them out.
The hunt won’t be over until you defeat all five members, but with their lack of strength, it won’t take long. After completing the fight you will receive 5,800 Gil, 50 AP, 700 XP, and 10 Renown. You will also get a large number of enemy drops. Clive will receive 20x Sharp Fangs, 50x Bloody Hides, and 10x Magicked Ash.
