The Blacksmith Blues III side quest in Final Fantasy 16 can be acquired in The Hideaway once you reach the A Song of Hope main quest. Here you’ll find someone named August and he needs help solving Blackthornes issues. We’ll take you through the necessary steps to completion and where to the Desert Salamander.
Blackthorne is upset yet again, and as expected, August has approached Clive to look into it. Will this be the last time? One can only hope so?
How to Start the Blacksmith Blues III Side Quest in Final Fantasy 16¶
First things first, you’ll need to have completed the main story mission Evenfall, and be on A Song of Hope. When those requirements have been met, head over to August who can be found in The Mess area of the Hideaway. Speak with him and you’ll learn that Blackthorne is upset again after seeing a ring that August was given, so he wants you to have another talk with him to get to the bottom of it.
Make your way over to The Black Hammer and speak with Blackthorne then you’ll find out that he is annoyed as someone he did his apprenticeship with has learned how to engrave metal and he doesn’t have a clue how to do it, so he thinks he isn’t a very good blacksmith which worries him as he’s work is what keeps all the Cursebreakers safe.
Where to Find a Desert Salamander¶
Once you’ve finished speaking with Blackthorne, fast travel over to Tabor which is in The Dhalmekian Republic Region, then follow the path along to the west until you reach The Field of Corava Sub-Region. Here you’ll want to head into Dravozd which is located to the north and a scene will play out. Unfortunately, Zoltan has no interest in talking so Blackthorne has decided to share Cid’s plans on how to create a furnace to the people of Dravozd, but he’ll need some help fetching the required items.
He needs you to fetch some Salamander Skins, so head back out into The Field of Corava and you’ll find a Desert Salamander roaming around the center of the area. This is an elite enemy, so you’ll want to deplete its stagger bar until it reaches the halfway point, then use Garuda’s Gouge to stagger it temporarily.
You’ll now want to place down Lightning Rod directly in front of it, then activate Limit Break before unleashing all of your abilities into it. Repeat this two times and you should defeat it. However, it does have some deadly attacks to watch out for whilst you’re chipping away at its health, so below you’ll find what they are and how to best avoid them:
- Flame Breath - The Desert Salamander will shoot out fire out of its mouth which will cover a large area in front of it. Simply keep your distance until it stops. It’ll do this attack regularly so don’t get too greedy with your attacks otherwise you’ll easily get caught in it.
- Fireball - Throughout the battle the Desert Salamander will shoot out single fireballs in quick succession. Here you’ll want to keep dodging side to side until it stops.
Return to Dravozd and give Blackthorne the items, then fast travel back to the Hideaway and speak with him once more to bring the quest to a close. You’ll be rewarded with Bloody Hide x100 and the Ouroboros Design Draft for your troubles.
