Following your exploits at the Crystalline Dominion, things are looking pretty rosy: the leadership of the Empire of Sanbreque has been purged, Drake’s Tail has been shattered, and all the good guys walked away mostly in one piece. Not a bad bit of business. Of the major powers in Valisthea, only the Kingdom of Waloed - ruled by Barnabas Tharmr, Dominant of Odin, remains. Those, however, are machinations for another day; for now it’s time to explore The Hideaway and get a feel for how things have settled following the seismic events of the last main quest. This page will walk you through the main quest Things Fall Apart in Final Fantasy XVI, providing information about the new Bahamut abilities you have access to, the numerous subquests you’ll have to complete in order to advance the main questline, as well as new side quests, hunts and crafting recipes you’ll unlock at this time.
How to Use Bahamut’s Abilities - FF16 Things Fall Apart Main Quest Walkthrough¶
First things first, after the fight with Bahamut you’ll find that you’ve gained access to a new Eikonic Ability tree. You can equip Bahamut as an Eikon, but with five Eikons and only three slots to equip them, you’ll have to be picky: if charging Megaflare while performing Precision Dodges sounds like a playstyle you’d like to try out, give it a go, otherwise you’ll have to just pick and master Bahamut’s abilities and equip them on other Eikons. If you want to try out these abilities, you can always test them out via the Hall of Virtue. Things Fall Apart Subquests - FF16 Things Fall Apart Main Quest Walkthrough¶
When you’re done fussing over your new Eikon, head to The Mess and talk to Otto, who will get you up to speed before referring you to Vivian and Harpocrates. The former, residing in the Map Room, will treat you to another realm rundown, and her revelations aren’t exactly surprising considering that basically every major power in Storm has been decapitated. Oops. Harpocrates, instead of fussing over maps of the ground, instead pontificates old myths about the state of the sky. Return to Otto and he’ll finally get around to divulging a myriad of problems pressing your allies, and these will each lead to subquests whose completion will constitute a majority of this main quest’s content:
- Aid Martha’s Rest in its dilemma (The Flames of War)
- Aid Northreach in its dilemma (Why We Fight)
- Aid Dalimil in its dilemma (Down the Rabbit Hole)
New Crafting Recipes and Hunts During Things Fall Apart - FF16 Things Fall Apart Main Quest Walkthrough¶
Before you rush off, it’s also worth noting that you should be able to craft a new weapon, Brightburn, by speaking to Blackthorne. This is a marginal improvement over the Diamond Sword +2, if you crafted that last quest, and a more substantial upgrade over pretty much any other weapon you might possess.
New Hunts and Side Quests after the Things Fall Apart Subquests - FF16 Things Fall Apart Main Quest Walkthrough¶
After you complete the three aforementioned subquests, return to The Hideaway and you’ll be tasked with talking to Otto, which transitions into a conversation with Joshua. This ultimately sets up the next main quest, Cloak and Dagger, which will task you with rescuing Mid, Byron and Gav from the Akashic besieging Kanver. This also unlocks one new hunt - The Pack - as well as a series of side quests that you can find around The Hideaway:
Whether you decide to complete these sooner rather than later is up to you, but you’ll need to travel to The Krozjit Echoes in Central Dhalmekia before you can subsequently travel to any other obelisk. Once you zone in at the aforementioned Krozjit Echoes obelisk, this main quest will end and Cloak and Dagger will begin… after some introductory chatter you’ll be free to leave and travel to any other obelisk, in case you want to take care of these new hunts and side quests.
