If you managed to get some hours in on Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom’s predecessor, you would have soon realized that bosses are everywhere. You don’t have to be in the depths of a building to encounter one, and instead, you can simply be roaming around in the lands of Hyrule and one will simply pop up, ready to take you down.
This same mechanic is back in Tears of the Kingdom, and you certainly won’t be short of some tough fights as you take to the grassy lands of Hyrule. One such roaming boss that’s a challenge to take on is the Battle Talus, and with this guide, we’ll be detailing strategies for beating this hard to beat enemy.
How to Beat Battle Talus in Tears of the Kingdom¶
First off, let’s just talk a bit about the Battle Talus itself before the strategies to defeat them. Essentially the Battle Talus is a different variation of the Stone Talus with platforms on the upper part of its body, where Bokoblins are residing. The introduction of both the platforms and additional enemies offers up a slightly trickier battle to the more basic Talus fights, but it also opens up more opportunities to get the upper hand.
There are a few different Battle Talus’ in the lands of Hyrule, some hidden beneath the surface, and some that are simply walking around. If you’re taking on one that is below, you’ve got a slight advantage as you’re able to get a surprise attack going on those Bokoblins and hopefully dispatch them before taking on the big guy.
What we recommend here is that you utilize the crouch mechanic as you move toward the Battle Talus and even consume some food or elixirs that boast stealth increases just to make sure. Then, you can fire off some arrows at the Bokoblins that are on top of the platforms. Ensure to fuse materials like Fire Fruit or even Bomb Flowers to your arrows to enhance your damage and potentially either knock them off their perch, or get multiple kills in one go.
If all of the above isn’t possible and the Battle Talus is simply going for you right off the bat, just try to keep your distance and take out the Bokoblins one by one. You’ll need to get rid of every single one of them to even have a chance at attacking the Talus itself, so stock up on those arrows.
Once all of the additional enemies are taken care of, it’s time to take on the main event. Again, the mechanic here is to utilize your bow and arrow, but instead of targeting Bokoblins, you’re going to be looking for a black crystal-like object on the Talus’ shoulder.
You should be able to lock on to this with ease so hold that ZL trigger down and it’ll make it a simpler shot.
Once you hit the black crystal, the Battle Talus will take a knee and look to recover. At this time, you need to close the gap between you and the boss and aim to get underneath one of the platforms on its body. This is because you need to get onto the stone beast to inflict damage.
Once you’re under the platform, use Link’s new Ascend ability to quickly get up onto it. This enables you to get up close and personal with the black crystal weak spot. Now, simply wail away on it with whatever weapons you have to inflict damage. The best weapons to use here are blunt weapons such as a Rock Hammer as these take the most health off.
After sinking in a few hits, the Talus will attempt to throw you off and if successful, you’ll be a little stunned. To avoid this, look for its shaking tell and simply jump off before it happens. You should get away scot free ready to repeat the process again.

The Talus will aim to thwart you by throwing large rocks but you will see this coming, so simply run to the right or left and you will avoid being hit. If you get too close, you will get a rock fist in the face for your troubles so do aim to keep a bit of a distance in between.
Rinse and repeat the damage phase as stated and you’ll have the Battle Talus down in no time. Once you do, you’ll get some rare ores materials for your troubles along with a Talus Heart which can’t be collected, but can be fused to a weapon to gain a large increase in damage.
