The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

A New Champion's Tunic Walkthrough - Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

By
Jarrod Garripoli

You will run into plenty of different side quests in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, some of which will actually lead the way to pieces of equipment. Of course, it’s also possible to find these items without doing the quests. One such side quest is called A New Champion’s Tunic, which will lead the way to the Champion’s Leathers piece of armor.

You will find this side quest in Zelda’s Secret Well, right outside of Hateno Village.

Where to Start A New Champion’s Tunic in Tears of the Kingdom

To start "A New Champion's Tunic" iconA New Champion’s Tunic, you will first need to travel to Hateno Village, which is located towards the southeastern corner of the map. If you have the "Zanmik Shrine" iconZanmik Shrine already, then just fast travel to that, as it’s just outside the village. Once you’re there, head west a little bit to find the Hateno Village South Well, then go southwest from there and across the bridge you find. This will lead to a house, which seemed to have been Zelda’s place. Behind that house is another well, "Zelda's Secret Well" iconZelda’s Secret Well, which is what you want. Go down the well and read the diary on the desk to start this side quest.

(1 of 2) You will have to journey to Zelda’s Secret Well to begin this side quest.

Where to Find the Champion’s Leathers

According to the diary, Zelda was having a new tunic made for Link, and she mentioned she would hide it in the throne room of Hyrule Castle. Of course, given the events of the game, the castle is now floating above where it was once located, so it’s not as easily accessible. Go to "Lookout Landing" iconLookout Landing and use the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower to launch yourself into the sky. From here, you will want to glide down towards the north, which is where the castle will be located.

You will likely need quite a bit of stamina to reach the castle, although if you have the Vow of !Tulin, then you should be able to get extra mileage while in the air. If not, you might need some stamina-replenishing food, with "Stambulb" iconStambulbs being a great item to add to other ingredients. Land on the southern side and head straight into the main room, the Sanctum. Don’t worry about anything else here right now, as you don’t need to explore at all. On the northern side of the !Sanctum, there are stairs and both will lead straight to the throne.

(1 of 4) Glide down after launching from the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower to reach Hyrule Castle.

If you remember the diary, there was a clue left about the torches being the key. Right in front of the throne, there are two unlit torches, so you are going to need to light them. You can toss "Fire Fruit" iconFire Fruit at them, or just attach those to arrows, if needed. If you have a Ruby in your inventory, you could "Fuse" iconFuse that to a weapon and use that to light the torches, too. However you do it, light both of them and the statue behind the throne will slide over, revealing a hidden compartment with the chest. Open it to obtain the "Champion's Leather" iconChampion’s Leathers.
