There are many a formidable opponent in Tears of the Kingdom, but there are few more intimidating than a Gleeok. These three headed dragon-like creatures are not only huge, they also pack a punch with their elemental abilities and raw power.
With this guide, we’ll be focusing on the Frost Gleeok, the ice spitting dragon that if you don’t know how to take down will certainly cause you some serious problems. Thankfully, we’ve taken it out and below, we’ll detail some strategies for how to beat the Frost Gleeok so you too can bring the fight to this winged foe.
How to Beat Frost Gleeok in Tears of the Kingdom¶
Once you’ve found one of these incredible beasts (and they’re not too hard to spot), you then have to take it down. Thankfully, like all other bosses in this game, there is a specific set of things you can do to make your life a whole lot easier.
First off, we recommend you stock up on both a bunch of arrows and Keese Eyeballs, preferably Fire Keese Eyeballs as these inflict more damage to this type of Gleeok thanks to its Frost nature. The reason why you’ll be needing these arrows is because you’ll be targeting the Gleeok from afar, thus meaning you’ll need a long range weapon. And for the Keese Eyeballs, if you didn’t know already, these add a homing effect to your arrows, reducing the errors in battle.
Now, onto the battle itself.
As you face up to the Frost Gleeok, you’ll be met with beams of ice that you will need to avoid. Run as fast you can to either side or hide behind any debris in the area to ensure you’re not frozen solid, and then you’ll have chance to attack yourself.
At this point, get your bow out and attach those Keese Eyeballs as previously mentioned. You’ll now need to take out each of the eyes on the three of the dragon’s heads which is relatively easy if you have the Eyeballs attached as well as the ability to to lock on with ZL.
Once you do this, the Gleeok will fall to the floor and this is your time to get the most damage in. Simply run up to the Gleeok, get your best possible weapon out, and wail on the dragon as much as you can. Again, you can fuse any form of fire creating material onto your weapon and it will enhance the damage slightly.
After this damage phase, it will get up and go back to its flying phase. Simply rinse and repeat the above process until the Gleeok reaches low health. This is where a change in strategy is required.
This is because the Frost Gleeok will go to the skies, out of reach of your arrows. However, you can easily get up to it. This is done through the large ice platforms that the Gleeok throws down which Recall can be used on, elevating you to the Gleeoks level. At this point, you can jump of said platforms and get some slo mo arrows off, hopefully getting each eye down in one go, sending the Gleeok to the ground once more.
Once this occurs, you should be able to finish it off if you have a weapon strong enough. If you do, this is the end of the fight and you will emerge victorious from this pretty intense battle. For your efforts, you’ll get some solid fuse material, as well as some other rare finds depending on which Frost Gleeok you take out (yes, there are multiple) so look out for any chests in the vicinity.
These are really fun to fight! It also helps to have some fairies on you in case you can't escape the ice, the fairies can be found in the Sky Islands (or Great Fairy Fountains) Also, any bows like the Great Eagle Bow that can release multiple arrows at once help too. The eyeballs will split into three (for the Great Eagle Bow) and they usually hit all the heads at the same time. (Sorry for writing so much)
