As you explore the world of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll find many people who ask you for help. These quests will take you to all corners of the map, and fight all sorts of monsters. One such side quest is Wanted: Molduga, which will be taking you to the desert and fighting a sand creature. You will actually be able to get this side quest at the same time as Wanted: Hinox and Wanted: Stone Talus.
Where to Start Wanted: Molduga in Tears of the Kingdom¶
This side quest is the same as the ones with the Hinox and Stone Talus, from Gralens, in the Emergency Shelter in Lookout Landing. To be able to open that, you have to complete the Crisis at Hyrule Castle main quest and for Gralens to appear there, you need to finish Bring Peace to Hyrule Field. Once you’ve done all of that, speak to Gralens and choose the monsters option, where you’ll be able to select this side quest.
Where to Find the Molduga for Wanted: Molduga in Tears of the Kingdom¶
Of the three hunts you can do, the Molduga is probably the easiest to find (even though the quest tracker will marker their exact position). If you’ve never been to the Gerudo region before, you might notice that it’s covered in a huge sandstorm. Thankfully, the area with the Molduga isn’t covered, so you won’t need to complete that portion of Regional Phenomena before being able to defeat this monster. It is found on the eastern side of the desert, and is pretty much right next to the Siwakama Shrine.
How to Defeat the Molduga in Tears of the Kingdom¶
At first glance, you might think the Molduga is one of the tougher minibosses in the game, due to its speed and the fact it mostly stays underground. However, there is a trick that makes this miniboss extremely easy, provided you know it. Before delving into that, you will likely want around 10 Bomb Flowers or so on you, depending on how strong your melee weapon is at the time of hunting. Additionally, you will want an item that is easily gathered/bought and can be thrown (Apples work well here).
The idea is to trigger the fight with the Molduga, where you see its health bar, and throw items on the ground. The reason for this is that the Molduga senses movement, so if you stand still (or on something) and toss an item on the ground, the Molduga will go after that item. This will cause it to jump out of the ground to consume the item you threw, which is your cue to shoot an arrow fused with a Bomb Flower at its belly. A successful hit with that explosive arrow will cause the Molduga to be stunned, where it stays above the ground for some seconds.
While stunned, you want to run up with your strongest weapon and continue attacking, preferably targeting the belly, as it’s the weakest spot. Eventually, the Molduga will get back up and burrow under the sand again, which is your cue to stop moving and get ready to repeat the process. Since the Molduga will never attack you, as long as you don’t move at all, there is nothing to really fear here, so it should be an easy kill.
Return to Gralens once you’ve downed the miniboss to receive a Silver Rupee (100 Rupees). If you’ve done all three Wanted quests, you will receive an additional Gold Rupee (worth 300 Rupees). You will also unlock the second set of big monsters, which can definitely prove to be more challenging.
