The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Master the Vehicle Prototype Walkthrough - Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

By
Jarrod Garripoli

!Tarrey Town is an important location in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, as it is home to the Break-a-Part Shop, as well as the place where you get your own house. However, it is also home to a few side quests, like Master the Vehicle Prototype. This page will guide you on how to start this side quest, as well as what you need to do to complete it.

The Master the Vehicle Prototype side quest is found right outside of Tarrey Town.

Where to Start Master the Vehicle Prototype in Tears of the Kingdom

If you haven’t been to Tarrey Town yet, it is located on Lake Akkala, which is towards the northeastern corner of the map. It’s easy to spot, as it’s a circular landmass that has a piece of land connecting it to the mainland on the eastern side. However, this side quest doesn’t start inside the actual town, but on the outskirts of it. Just northwest of the town is a small area, with a bunch of things set up, which seems like a course of some kind.

If you approach the building, you should see an NPC named Fernison, who will be arguing with two Gerudo. Speak to Fernison to start the side quest and learn about the problem. She basically built a prototype vehicle but doesn’t seem to have any way to control it.

How to Complete Master the Vehicle Prototype in Tears of the Kingdom

As mentioned above, Fernison has no way to control the vehicle she has built, so she has no idea what she can do. If you’ve been tinkering with building things in this game, then you might have an idea on what to use. However, if you haven’t been doing much building, then you might need a hint. There is a Zonai device that allows you to basically steer any vehicle you build. It is called the Steering Stick and you may already have one in your inventory.

(1 of 3) You can get a Steering Stick from the dispenser just to the south.

If you don’t, then you will need to visit a device dispenser to get one and luckily, you will find one just south of this side quest, along the coast. This dispenser has six items in it, though, so you may not get the !Steering Stick on your first try, depending on how many "Zonai Charge" iconZonai Charges you use on it. Note that this dispenser is a part of the "Secrets Within" iconSecrets Within side quest. Once you have the device, return to Fernison and tell her about the steering stick. She will say she doesn’t know how to use it, so you can go ahead and place it on the vehicle yourself.

Once you have done this, Fernison will need to see it in action, so she sets up a test course for you. To complete the course, you will need to drive over the lights that are lit, then return to the starting point, all within the time limit. You also won’t be able to let go of the steering device, nor go too far off the course; should this happen, you will fail. You will have three minutes to complete the course, which is plenty of time. As soon as the clock starts, take control of the stick and start driving through the lights.

(1 of 3) Fernison will tell you the rules of the test course.

There are only four lights during this test course, and they’re all located pretty much right next to each other. After hitting all four, return to the starting point to finish. To reward you for your help, you will receive a "Silver Rupee" iconSilver Rupee, as well as a "Sleepover Ticket" iconSleepover Ticket. The ticket can be used at any stable for a free one-time use of a regular bed. Completing this quest will allow you to do "The Tarrey Town Race Is On!" iconThe Tarrey Town Race Is On!
